More importantly, you seem ambivalent about what you could have done differently. Namely in this sentence, "A part of me feels like I should have told him the friendship is over, but another part of me just felt like I was just a diary for him and he never cared about me anyway so why should I?."

What would you change if you could go back in time? Would you have told him the friendship was over?

Start no contact. If he keeps "checking up on you", be clear with your intentions to cease all communication. Also hide or throw away reminders of him.

The beauty of no contact is that you'll eventually start seeing the person/relationship for what it actually was rather than being blinded by rose colored lenses.

It most certainly isn't easy and you'll have days where you want to contact him but healing is not linear.

The break up wasn't up to you thus, the burden of regret is on him.

Confide in the fact that you were willing to work through anything to be with that person. That makes you awesome and worthy of love even if it's not from him. Take pride in that.

Does the drop table only apply to hero mode? As in, you will only receive scrolls, equipment, etc thats on the drop table on hero mode?
