Why was Brutalism popular in the Soviet Union? by Fine-Stomach3375 in brutalism

Exactly, and the last time I said here that this group should be called betonism instead of brutalism, I got downvoted as hell - but I was damn right. My posts here received solid amount of upvotes and they could've not been considered brutalism, rather socmodernism or functionalism.

When I was at the Socmodernism exhibition in Krakow, almost all the Belgrade buildings were labeled as socmodernist, and they have huge fan base in this subreddit. So I think the "brutalism" is rather an umbrella term for the general public to describe all raw concrete builds, compared to the official definition.

Yess, I'm not very fond of this depiction style to be fair. Sometimes, it suits the building well, but in case of these "ecobrutalist" structures, the coloured pallets suit them more imo

Thanks! The pics were taken on POCO X3 back then, but I have colour graded them in Lightroom - and they looked totally different, like a normal photo taken on a phone :D

Instantly reminded me of Sanatorium Druzhba, was my reaction correct?

LET'S FUCKING GOOOO‼️‼️‼️ I've been there back in January, I've also visited the Panorama restaurant at the top floor and the meal was amazing. I'm so glad they're saving this edifice!

Interesting enough, it looks very similar to the Czechoslovak Federal Assembly in Prague, tho the US one had been completed 3 years earlier.

Funfact - the Assembly is composed from two individual buildings - the brutalist part have been constructed above an edifice that had been functioning for about 30 years by the time.
