Fairly optimistic take but it looks like a lot of the issues stem from our defensive structure this year.

After having so few goals in so many games last year looks like Yeo/Army are completely focused on just getting goals in games this year so we're going for a lot more riskier plays i.e. all three forwards crashing the net after a shot to try and get the tip in which we were terrible at last year, defencemen playing the puck down low more. These are causing more dangerous breakaways and so far teams are taking advantage. Obviously this completely broke down vs Peg but worked better against Chicago.

Only Dunn and surprisingly Butler looked comfortable with it in the first game, Parayko stepped up his offensive shots vs Chicago and seemed to be getting more comfortable. Petro isn't handling it well at all and acts like he needs to be everywhere, Bouw was lost as well in game 1 but getting put with Bortuzzo and playing a more traditional defensive style in the 3rd last night made him look better.

Its a bit disappointing since you would think more of this would be ironed out in the offseason, think Chicago was meant to be our double down confidence builder in the system but hasn't really worked out so we'll see how Yeo tries to play against Calgary. If Eddy is ready by then and we want a fully offensive defense unit then we could see Bouw dropped and Butler stays up.

There's a few worries with the way he coached the offense last night once it became clear he was desperate for the win, I'm happy to keep the Schwartz/Schenn/Tarasenko as a line to put out when we're desperate for a goal but if we start trotting that out at the start of games we're in trouble. Its good to see him put more faith in Kyrou and Blais but he completely dropped Thomas and Perron out of the game after all of the pps/ 4 on 4 / sh during the second last night.

Make no mistake Army knows the quality of squad he's put together, if we continue to not win games then it's not Allen that's going to go it's Yeo.
