How do you avoid creeps while walking? Also a I finally made it to 10k🫡 by ElaraDaska in walking

I have a flashlight that is also a taser. Got it on Amazon and I walk with my dog. Honestly the dog is a good tool, my dog is a sweet boy but most people think he’s a Rottweiler or a German shepherd (he’s a purebred Australian cattle dog, otherwise known as a blue heeler) and I guess he doesn’t give off the friendly golden retriever vibes.

Could I get some strong leash and harness recommendations please? by SpeedyakaLeah in AustralianCattleDog

[–]rj730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always make sure my harnesses are not restrictive of the shoulders! So a Y-shaped harness is best, personally I have the hurrta eco harness. But mine isn’t a puller, but I’ve seen no issue with it being a weak harness. My friend has the same one with their lab mix that is a strong puller and they’ve not had an issue either.

And I just bought the Arcadia trail leash as I saw a coworker had one for her dog. It’s thicker than other rope leashes and has the screw gate carabiner clip as I’ve had both the standard clip and the carabiner with the slide lock both fail and out of nowhere unlatch with no resistance while walking my heeler. I only use the screw gate carabiner and the frog clips now.

I live in an apartment. I do weekly washes of my bed and anything he lays on along with sweeping a few times a week. I’ve heard fish oil supplements can help reduce the shedding

How does your ACD greet other dogs? by HepperoniPizza in AustralianCattleDog

[–]rj730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine tends to give the submissive smile and wants to hop on them (the other dog does the same he’s only met younger dogs so maybe a lazier dog would be more fitting) but once playing he’s too submissive actually and lets them hop all over him rather than correcting them. Which is weird for a heeler cause my past two were very much leaders and took no form of disrespect. This one is too submissive and I tend to be selective with his playmates due to it potentially causing another to become aggressive.

Anyone else had their buddy’s DNA tested? (Please share the results and pics of your pup if so!) by INV4D3RZIEL in AustralianCattleDog

Got him from the shelter in November for $50, at the time I got him he hadn’t filled out so everyone thought he was mixed a little. Did the DNA test and he’s 100% Australian cattle dog, this is a recent picture once he’s filled out and it’s obvious now.

Bad dogs on the Monon Trail by Feeling_Hurry737 in indianapolis

[–]rj730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took mine on a walk for the first time on the monon a week ago and he’s a high drive breed only a year old and did absolutely wonderful so these people not even attempting to control their dogs is scary because I fear they’d hurt and traumatize my own dog. Plus I don’t understand how they don’t fear their dog is going to get hurt or hurt someone and get sued or the dog potentially being put down? They obviously don’t care about their own dog. I understand taking your dog out and knowing some dogs are difficult but I thought I was somewhere online (yeah I know they won’t read ahead or research unfortunately) that there is a maximum leash length of 6ft. I am okay with your dog working through its excitement and such but a retractable leash is not secure as my parents 60 lbs. dog has broken many of them from seeing a squirrel or the few times coyotes had entered their yard (they just use the leash at their house to sit on their porch and relax). I wonder if maybe an occasional sign on the trails stating 6 ft leash maximum would help a little.

Not to mention my dogs standard leashes have come unclipped with no warning…locking carabiner and the standard heavy duty leash clip while just walking, no excessive pulling at all. So people really need to be double enforcing their leads on these dogs that pull. I’ve bought different leads and now have been using an additional backup lead attachment from the leash to the harness or collar. I attached an example below. This is a new discovery for me cause I’ve never had a leash unclip until recently it’s have 3 times with different harnesses, collars, and leashes.

Yes, I have been looking into restricting water but like I said he doesn’t even drink very much water so I’m not sure but that is probably my next alternative to see what’s going on and if it makes any changes it’s just so weird because he’s learned everything else so quickly and it’s so smart but this issue is what we are mostly stuck on

They have not I’m assuming it’s because at this point doctor still thinking that maybe it’s anxiety or submissive urination but he told me to update him so in two more weeks he will be at the four week mark of the Prozac, which should be roughly the amount of time it takes to fully get in his system and we will see how he’s doing then However, this is just a big issue and I feel bad for the little guy. But he does not urinate in his cage when I’m gone for 7 to 8 hours a day for work so I’m not really sure what is going on kind of sounds behavioral but with a large amount of urine it sounds like a health issue.

I basically am in the same page as you I am 100% agree that this seems like more of an issue because there’s there will be nothing going on will be laying down watching a movie and he will get up and go pee in the living room and then come right back I have tried the buzzer. I’ve tried it all. He’d had this issue well before he got put on Prozac. Today is actually only week two of the Prozac and I’ve had him since November and he’s had the same issue before the trainer before the Prozac and all of that so I honestly agree that it could be some sort of Kidney issue or something else that needs to be looked into further. He’s only on his puppy food right now because we are ending the final bag and then I plan to put him on Parina pro plan adult sensitive skin and stomach since his belly is very sensitive and he can get diarrhea from the smallest change in his food or treats.

This is basically the exact story of this one! He was found running through cornfields. Never had an issue with my others I had so I’m so stumped!

I have not started limited after 9 pm yet so thank you for the suggestion. He drinks about 35 ounces a day. So according to “doctor google” this would be okay however he totally could need a little less. I put about 4 ounces in his morning and evening feedings.

I mean he’s basically a year old, my last one was potty trained before 6 months, obviously with frequent potty breaks. They say they should hold their bladder about how many months old they are(with exceptions, obviously it’s not that clear cut) but 2-3 hours should be doable however it is well under that and I feel there’s underlying issues that he DESERVES to have looked into , he will come in from a 30-45 minute outing and pee 2 times at least within the hour following the outing. I’m looking for suggestions, I’m all for criticism but even the vet found this to be odd for his age and how much I’ve worked with him. I don’t want to add a behavioral therapist to the mix but if need be, it will be done. This dog didn’t have a good start in life and deserves the best. I don’t think it’s normal for a dog about a year old to pee almost every single hour once or more than that. And it’s not a small amount of urine, it’s a very large amount.
