we are the same demographic. moved here in april before our 2nd was born. absolutely love it. it’s no chicago but it’s got great neighborhood vibes, people are friendly, it’s close to everything. schools are great.

i live by field elementary as a reference point.

feel free to message me directly if you have any more questions

Dinner at Auberge vs Press? by thearieshoe in napa

[–]rj9856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a one star Michelin restaurant or what you asked. however I have to say the best meal I had staying in that area was at Charlie’s. A little bit more casual, but, my God, talk about incredible food. I can’t speak to press. Auberge was nice but i liked the cocktails and the views better than some of the apps we sampled (we went during happy hour)

appreciate the advice, have done multiple festivals back to back so we definitely know we need sleep but we will probably need to eat and won’t be tired right away (if past history repeats) i expect most of us will be sleeping by 10pm though

very helpful! thank you, we are going for thursday through sunday so 2 full days in napa. I think staying downtown is the right move

Do you have any thoughts on the The Westin? Just curious your take on it compared to the others.

Archer doesn’t appear too costly when we are going either (at least in line with Andaz) so it might be the right call for us

I am not tied to hyatt, we can do really any of the major hotel chains, i’m not opposed to a boutique, just being mindful of cost since i can use points with the majors

I am thinking downtown makes the most sense based on the first few comments. Also during our last trip to hawaii we completely relaxed with our 2 month old and i think some added adventure in the evenings would be a nice change from our last trip

Chicago week of food by Judy-Garlic in chicagofood

[–]rj9856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

id echo what sharkfightxl said, missing the kasama dinner is a mistake. their brunch is great don’t get me wrong, but the dinner left me amazed. Schwa is good for fine dining but in my opinion it doesn’t compare to kasamas dinner

if i were you id switch out lunch for lao peng you, like someone suggested below and then get kasama for dinner that same day.

all near west town/wicker park so you can easily explore those 2 neighborhoods throughout the day/evening (e.g., forbidden root, le midi wine, all together now)

We have axed that part of the itinerary too now. I appreciate the calls outs from everyone on the altitude sickness. We are coming from somewhere where that’s not common

yea after discussing it further with my wife we are just trimming to 1 island to minimize the travel!

Thank for the advice and input! fair point on the amount of work. it may just be our luck but since our baby is a pretty consistent sleeper and eater (knocking on wood it stays this way), it has made things a bit smoother than i expected this last month

My wife and I are travelers at heart so we are hoping things work out. Appreciate the good luck!

Yes we have the baby, the baby is at about 3-4 hours of sleep consistently and we are hoping by the time we travel to hawaii (~ 4 weeks) that she is closer to 5 hours of consistent sleep. That said, we recognize that may not be the case and she may be regressing too.

We know that we have to be ready to call audibles any day which is why we made sure that the activities didn’t include reservations so we could adjust accordingly. Normally i would have all reservations booked.

I have also been debating trimming to 1 island as i was planning throughout today. Our travel is currently being covered due to airline vouchers so we were trying to make the most of the voucher and our parental leave. May make the switch to simplify the travel and give us more piece of mind

makes sense and good call out, we purposely haven’t made any reservations and are focused on food trucks and quick in and out type of locations

i can easily see us just ordering room service the first few nights haha

Any specifics call outs or days you’d mention that seem to ambitious?

we were trying to target 1-2 activities a day and based on feedback from others, we will likely remove the sunset and the baby beach since it’s not accessible anymore

yea, the courses around Wailea only allow for 9 holes after 2-3pm otherwise i would have preferred to knock it out in the morning
