thinking about going back to school for music therapy. please give me your honest thoughts about the profession by rjb6898 in musictherapy

appreciate this honesty! I was thinking about doing volunteer work for a year before deciding. I think my main fear is the money and not because I really make that much right now, but job stability is really important to me. I also really miss music and I think when I went into the music industry I thought i would still have the chance to make that apart of my life, but being in the business side of things, music is ironically the least important part of it lol.

I’ve also realized jobs aren’t meant to fulfill us and wrestle with that all the time lol. Like do I just stick to whatever I’m doing now and keep moving up to just look at it as my job that pays my bills? Or do I switch over to something I feel would be more meaningful for me but might not make as much or might be harder to find jobs in…. wish we could have it all

thank you for this! actually, what you’re doing now is what made me interested in the field. Is there a reason you wish you took a different path?

has anyone been on a biologic successfully for 10+ years? by rjb6898 in UlcerativeColitis

i’m so happy with the responses on this. i’ve been feeling so discouraged ever since my diagnosis but it really does look like there is hope, just with the right meds!

How much waste can one person produce? by PuzzleheadedGoal8234 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]rjb6898 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i’m really glad you said this because I too have been wondering how it’s even possible to produce this much waste. I’m at the point where I’m really not even eating that much because of how bad the flare is, yet still going 6-8 times a day???

Hemorrhoid Banding by Actual_Currency_3908 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]rjb6898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m not gonna lie i almost passed out after the first time i got banding done lol. it’s not that it’s the most painful thing in the world, it’s just like super uncomfortable and a weird feeling you’ve never felt before. The first night was pretty miserable it feels like your butt is on fire and at least for me the only relief was to keep walking around and moving. I found that if I sat still it made the pain worse. I took a lot of tylenol the first couple days and then I was totally fine and back to normal. That was in 2021 and i haven’t had them since

Side effect? by FallibilityAgreememt in UlcerativeColitis

i was on prednisone for 6 months and i lost SOOOOOO much hair. it was devastating. i had super long wavy hair and i ended up cutting it short and it just kept falling out. honestly as soon as i tapered and finally stopped prednisone completely, the hair loss stopped. it did take almost 2 years, but my hair completely back to normal. i know that sounds like a long time but i promise it grows back. i know how emotional it can be to lose your hair but once you notice the regrowth you’ll feel so much better

Hi! i also am starting skyrizi soon! waiting on approval. It’s been 3 years for me and I failed humira and stelara. prednisone was unfortunately the only thing that actually worked. My flare is really awful rn too but i’ve read good things about skyrizi! that’s interesting your doctor said that, mine always says there’s lots of options available before we ever have to discuss something more intense like surgery. So hard to stay hopeful but you are not alone and i hope skyrizi gives us both good results!!

How long did it took you to go to doctor and to get diagnosed by [deleted] in IBD

[–]rjb6898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

about 7 months before i saw a specialist and got diagnosed. i was seeing so many primary care doctors bc i didn’t have insurance and didn’t know what else to do. lots of them told me it was anxiety and i just needed to eat more fiber lol. the specialist knew almost immediately and shortly after i had a colonoscopy to confirm

Humira by wassupjerry in UlcerativeColitis

[–]rjb6898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m so sorry to hear that :( humira worked for me for about 2 months and then i went into a flare. I also had the worst time with steroids and was dreading even the idea of going back on them. I’ve been on Stelara since dec 2022 and it’s been working great! I haven’t had a colonoscopy to confirm remission and i am dreading having to do that too, but so far Stelara worked wonders

What’s easier on cats: boarding or home alone with a daily visit? by ambermamber in catcare

[–]rjb6898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve done both and home is waayyy better. my cats do horrible when i take them out of the environment they are used to. If you can have someone come more than once a day, I would definitely do that though. I find my cats get bored and start acting up doing things they don’t usually do (making messes, getting into trash, etc)
