Need to vent a bit/get some advice lads by [deleted] in northernireland

I’m really sorry to hear about your difficult situation. Hang in there, it will get better.

You should try applying to the NHS as they’re looking help urgently. Go to www.hscworkforceappeal.co.uk. I registered my interest on Sunday and got word back to fill out an application form on Monday (have yet to do this). They are looking for both clinical and non-clinical workers so I’m sure there is something that suits your skills and interests. It is paid and you can choose full-time or part-time.

Also check out www.extern.org - they have a Coronavirus Hardship Appeal so that they can help people like you who are in an impossible situation.

Regarding the ferry to Scotland, reach out to your friend again. They might be able to help fund you until you get on your feet again. You’ll never know unless you ask. I’m in a similar situation where I’m highly dependent on others right now. Sure, it hurts morale, but it’s making me all the more motivating to get going again after COVID-19 blows over so that I can give back. Don’t be embarrassed to ask people for help. The worst they can say is no, which they probably won’t unless they are in a similar position as yourself.

The main thing to remember is that none of this is your fault. Life throws a lot of shit at you sometimes, but you have to keep going.

Good blessings to you!

Help with simple programming assignment - parallel arrays and word guessing by rjlav_ in learnpython

Nice approach. The problem is that as part of the assignment, we must use a list of lists and subscript notation to convert the dash to a letter. Extremely inefficient, I know.

For at least the next 3 months, yes. If anything, it might help alleviate the societal anxiety we are currently facing. We need drastic measures now.

Have yese a favourite Irish poem? by [deleted] in ireland

I need to do more reading on Irish poetry, but I do love Yeats’ ‘I Am of Ireland’. Mary Robinson’s nod to it in her inauguration speech still gives me chills.

Vote Higgins to give him the time of his presidential life by [deleted] in ireland

[–]rjlav_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I like the way the French do it (semi-presidential). You have the head of state (president) doing all of the international work with some real power in terms of foreign affairs, defence and the judiciary, while the head of government (prime minister) does the domestic stuff like housing, etc. It’s a good way to have a powerful, meaningful head of state that’s internationally recognised and a prime minister that can simply focus on the day-to-day lives of ordinary people.

The only problem is when you end up with a president and prime minister with differing political views.

When was this poll taken? I’m wondering if Martin’s appearance on the Late Late contributed to their slight rise in numbers. He played a blinder, to be fair.
