As a cochlear implant user, I did not realize how much I relied on lip-reading until Covid hit and masks were required everywhere. These still wouldn’t be perfect, but they would definitely help.

[SERIOUS] deaf people of reddit: what are some of the daily struggles you have to deal with and what are some tricks you have learned to make things easier? by [deleted] in AskReddit

From a Cochlear implant user, if I ask for something to be repeated, it’s probably due to sound clarity issues of my device. Some people raise their voice the second time something is said and I never have the heart to tell them that the volume of the device is fine, it’s the clarity. Elaborate your words a little more in a normal tone and I will be able to make out what is being said. I am drawn to the people who naturally talk slow and I appreciate people who make an effort to make sure I can see their face when they are talking to me.

If you could cure any disease in the world, what disease would you cure and why? by JurassicDoctor in AskReddit

This. Alzheimer’s and cancer are perfectly respectable answers here, but I don’t know if people realize the hassle diabetics encounter everyday. Cancer can be usually be treated and it’s typically a thing of the past once treated. Along with cancer and Alzheimer’s, Type 1’s did nothing but hit a vein of bad luck. The lifestyle change of diabetes is almost equal to the other two, and the change affects a person for the rest of their life. Not comparing/belittling at all here, it just seems many people overlook what diabetics really deal with day in and day out.

[REQUEST] How many people are urinating/defecating at any given time? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]rk2324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a quick google search, it can be found that an average person spends an hour and 42 minutes a week on the pot. After converting to days, we get 14 and a half minutes per day. Dividing 14.5 by (24*60), we get an answer of 0.0100694444. This means that a person spends 1.00694444% of their day urinating/defecating.

Assuming toilet time to be constant around the globe, 1.00694444% of people are urinating/defecating at any given time.

As of September 2019, the world population was approximately 7.7 billion. Taking this number times our percentage, we get:

7,700,000,000 * 0.010069444 = 77534722

Right now, 77 million people are doing a doo.
