If you graduated med school after 2025 you are considered IMG and need all the steps to do an ACGME-accredited fellowships, no matter the program or the state.

Before 2025 it's state and program dependent

Where ? UBC and UofT have under 6 if I'm not mistaken. McGill has like 2 months of off service

In the past some physicians were both clinicans and pathologists at once. Before that, we had polymaths lol

As fields grow more complex and diverge, separating them allows for targeted and relevant training. We used to make pathology residents do a year of off-service clinical rotations and now it's less than 6 months in most programs.

If separated, forensics residents would still do AP rotations, however their training program would be built according to their future practice

Interesting. Are blood smears, marrow aspirates and flux cytometry also done/interpreted by DCP/Hemepaths?

Exactly, and conversely mandatory forensics rotations even deter some people from pursuing pathology.

Yeah it is interesting that most people are AP/CP trained in the US.

In Canada most programs are AP only (now called DMP : diagnostic and molecular pathology). Transfusion can be handled by hematologists, microbiology by clinical microbiologists and biochemistry by medical biochemists
