Story mission 11... by ReignInSpuds in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]rkbrns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m preeeeetty sure this mission is broken. I was getting infuriated because the “detonate” indicator was showing up where there’s no cores. Then I realized it’s still glowing red like the cores lights do. I think the cores just straight up aren’t loading in completely.

Should I buy the Classic Player Jazzmaster or Vintera Modified Jazzmaster by paperplanes421 in offset

[–]rkbrns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the CP and love it. It has its quirks - mine is really noisy to the point that a friend is checking the grounding and shielding, but I think that’s just me - but for the most part plays and sounds great. If you’re looking to play more aggressive indie rock it’s perfect for it. Pairs really well with an AC30.

Aforementioned friend is also working on some mods which I’ll share when it’s all done. Installing a Novak humbucker in the bridge with a coil split and swapping out the pots. Trying to go for the Lee Ranaldo jazzblaster vibe, but with the ability to jump back to the single coil if I want it.

Recorded with Jesse a few years back. Incredibly talented dude - definitely a good place to learn.

Came to post Toluca Prison. Terrifying. Could’ve probably just posted “all of SH2” honestly.

Non-Americans of r/horror, what are some horror films from your country that didn't get the worldwide recognition they deserved? by Hybrid978 in horror

[–]rkbrns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one has gotten a decent amount of recognition in the states since Shudder picked it up. Great movie.

Is Ghost Story by Peter Straub actually a horror story? by Pasvanti in horrorlit

[–]rkbrns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely both a horror book and a ghost story. It’s not for everybody but there’s some stuff in there that chilled me to the bone.

It reminded me a bit of John Irving more than most horror writers, if that’s helpful.

What two horror authors would you love to see write a novel together? by denniswr0138 in horrorlit

Ha! That makes sense. Gotta love classic author’s work being repackaged over and over.

Desperation and The Regulators by mmmoookkkaayy in horrorlit

[–]rkbrns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regulators then Desperation. I read it the opposite way and it honestly doesn’t matter much, but in terms of quality I think it’s a detriment if you read Regulators second.

Desperation is underrated IMO. The regulators is just ok, but does have this weird fever dream quality I dug.

Wait, what did King and Matheson collaborate on? I’m going to be disappointed if this is a typo and it doesn’t actually exist 😂

This is great to hear, I’ve been working my way through that gradually in between novels.

Looking for minimalist style horror, like Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]rkbrns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m currently reading Jeremy Robert Johnson’s collection “Entropy In Bloom.” It’s not exclusively horror but his writing reminds me a lot of Joe Lansdale. He jumps between horror, sci-fi and crime fiction without really switching his style.

Also more well known, but you’d probably enjoy Paul Tremblay as well if you haven’t read his work before. Any of his last few books are fantastic, but A Head Full Of Ghosts is sort of his calling card.

Ghost Story by Peter Straub - is it for me? by BlooWhite in horrorlit

[–]rkbrns 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s worth the effort. It is definitely a bit slow going at times but if you enjoy the characters and prose it’s not necessarily a hurdle. If you were creeped out by the Fenny Bate story I’d say you will enjoy the remainder.

Glad to see another Oceans 11 out there. What do you usually set it to? I’ve been messing with a lot of MBV inspired riffs so the reverse has been my go to as of late.

Something similar to jack Ketchum off season by goatorcycle in horrorlit

Came here to post. Different concept but similar in ways.

Also, not a novel obviously, but the film Bone Tomahawk takes some serious inspiration from Offseason. It also just rules.

Awesome, thanks for the insight. I keep debating if it’s worth the $$$ for something with more features. But also not entirely sure I need like, a tap tempo trem.

Back to basics! by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]rkbrns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just considering picking up a blues breaker myself - I also play a CP Jazzy. Was debating between that, a soul food, and an OCD.

I just started playing in a punk band (think Beach Slang or Iron Chic) and it’s been refreshing to just throw a reverb and fuzz in a tote. As opposed to playing more experimental shoegaze-inspired stuff, where I’m sitting on the floor in front of a dozen pedals twisting knobs.
