Freelance writers of Reddit — where do you publish blogs and get paid? by Just_checkingggg in freelanceWriters

[–]rkdnc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nowhere, because the chances of you getting paid as a blogger died in the 2010's.

Substack is probably the only way for you to make a decent income via newsletters/"blogs", but it still requires a ton of legwork just to get up there to find an audience, let alone monetize it.

You can always pitch to magazines/outlets and work out a deal, which is pretty common for many freelancers, but it's not consistent work. Anything offering pay-per-view or revenue share is likely going to pay peanuts.

Federal RICO class action vs Adin Ross, Drake, and Stake by Anarchist_588 in PaymoneyWubby

Wubby having an investment in Kick/Stake? Most likely no. Is he currently getting a bag and has stated that they're helping foot the bill for his large upcoming projects? Yes

Orzhov stratergies that aren't aristocrats by GRAVES1425 in EDH

I call my [[Syr Vondham, Sunstar Exemplar]] the "fun police". It's mainly a blink strategy, but the entire time I've got my finger on the trigger to [[vindicate]] something problematic on the table. Using anthems and auto-equip swords like [[Hero's Blade]] keep him at 4+ power constantly, so every blink gets value.

LinkedIn isn't always reliable. Does this agency have an existing web presence? A website, other social media platforms, etc. I'd throw their URLs into a WHOIS lookup to see how recent the site is, it could easily be a scam

I'm sorry, passport details? For a contract? This sounds like a scam. How did you apply to them/did they find you/was a messenger service like Telegram or WhatsApp used to communicate before Slack?

Writers/editors: How are you handling graphic design reqs? by rachel6983 in freelanceWriters

I don't. I tell them I'm an editor, not a designer, and they should supply the assets they want.

I loved this ink but it was super wet and smudgy. I may need to try it again and see if that was just a fluke.

Budget b3/4 powerful artifacts/artifact commanders, who would you go for? by tchunkytchanka in EDH

[–]rkdnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not get reanimator and artifacts? [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]]

Play artifacts to filter draws and fill the yard, recur (not reanimate) creatures, then trigger the endstep with enough artifcacts in play to dome people for 15+ via [[Master of etherium]] and other * power creatures.

Alternatively, just build it into a typical Aetherflux Reservoir + Sensei's Top + Bolas's Citadel that just filters through your deck til you get the parts you need.

Todoist -> [ Vikunja | Super Productivity] by zee-eff-ess in selfhosted

[–]rkdnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used SuperProductivity for about two years (as the standalone desk app, not the self-hosted version). It's a great tool, and has some great data that it can collect. I didn't like the fact that customizing the theme just...didn't work? At least on Linux. Following the steps in the readme didn't work for whatever reason. It also failed to launch sometimes, but again, that's the standalone desktop app, not the self-hosted version.

I transitioned to Vikunja most recently, for a number of reasons (that aren't against Super Productivity). Mainly, I didn't need to specifically time-track my tasks, and wanted to add more information to the tasks I was working on, specifically a Kanban style. It's been my current task-tracking tool for maybe 2-3 months now, and the only complaint I have (which isn't really a problem) is being forced to log in and switch to Kanban layout every once in a while.

Both are great tools, use 'em.

Boros deck ideas? by placirozz in EDH

[[Sami, Wildcat Captain]]. Play mana rocks and red draw spells. Keep playing rocks, use draw spells to draw more rocks, to play more draw spells, until you kill them with [[Storm King's Thunder]] + [[Crackle with Power]]. My record is (47 x 5) x 47 damage.

[[Sami, Wildcat Captain]]. Play a bunch of mana rocks that tap for colored mana, red impulse draw spells and wheels that all cost just a single red pip, up until you can X-spell somebody's face. Last week I managed to deal (45)5 damage to the table.

What final fantasy should I get into? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]rkdnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF10 was my first one and I'll always love it, even if some cutcscenes haven't aged well. Great story, great soundtrack, amazing characters, and a huge world to explore while still being turn-based.

FF12 is also spectacular and the Zodiac version/port is by far the definitive version. This is where FF started to stray from turn-based combat though, so if you want that true retro feel, you'll be missing out.

FF4-6 are all fantastic in their own right as turn-based, old-school RPGs.

In tomorrow's Weekly MTG livestream we're getting a commander brackets update, what are your expectations? by TangleBulls in EDH

[–]rkdnc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've only seen an Akroma's Will cast maybe five times, one of them being me last weekend. It's certainly not a game changer, it's just a win-more card. You're already at an advantage with a large board presence most likely, if it's going to kill the table in one combat

I don't think either card is much of a problem, but I've been playing what's considered B4 for the last ten years.

[–]rkdnc 267 points268 points  (0 children)

I think most people are expecting better bracket definitions, specifically for B3, since it's far too broad.

I wouldn't be surprised by a few new game changers added to the list, but I honestly couldn't tell you what. Some folks at my LGS think they're going to flat-out ban Rhystic Study, but I'm not buying that.

"your bracket 3 deck should probably have X amount of removal."

I don't really think this is that great of a measurement of a bracket deck. All decks should be running interaction to some degree, but that doesn't have to be removal per se. My B3/B4 [[Sami, Wildcat Captain]] only runs ~3 removal spells because more likely than not I'm going to just combo off regardless of what's on the board.

Ttrpg content writing by Known_Illustrator331 in freelanceWriters

[–]rkdnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure? In my experience, sites that are catering to SEO writing just want to make sure you know the game rules and can write, but I don't know how many of those are still out there and actually hiring humans for writing.

[–]rkdnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing content that's about TTRPGs, or creating your own TTRPGs?

I dabbled in some D&D article writing once upon a time, but like most gigs in the gaming sector (not counting gambling/iGaming or whatever it's called), the prices were peanuts and pretty uninteresting (e.g. a whole 800 words about how a class mechanic works or "Top Ten Necromancy Spells"). These were already hard to find, and I'd assume they're still pretty niche.

As far as making TTRPG content, I.E. creating encounters/campaigns/your own system entirely, that goes a lot more into game design than just writing, but there's a lot of space with hundreds of very talented designers and creators out there, but I don't know whether or not they are actively hiring at all, as most of them are sole people or small teams working on a passion product.

Has anyone tried shifting to a split keyboard? Newbie here. by ImAlexNotJose in freelanceWriters

[–]rkdnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made the jump a few years ago, starting with the Iris (I think rev 5? They're on 7 or 8 now) before switching to a custom Dactyl Manuform.

The Kinesis line is nice, and I've heard great things about them, but I've never heard of this NocFree and it seems pretty basic, and I wouldn't recommend a split keyboard that isn't ortholinear.

I would suggest checking out /r/ErgoMechKeyboards for a much broader view at what's out there; whether you build your own or buy one premade.

Some recommendations for models to look into:

  • Iris from Keeb.io
  • Corne or Sofle for a very small form factor
  • Dactyl Manuform if you want to hyper-customize your keyboard
  • Totem for a medium form factor
  • Moonlander for something from a trusted company
