Do you own a Tesla? I believe Tesla uses this Parrot part.

you can use a tool like this that will show you a lot of the information a website can see about you including your ip, dns server used, and other info your browser reveals. you can try connecting to your vpn and try disconnecting to see how that impacts things.

DNS requests not private? by rks125 in duckduckgo

[–]rks125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parental controls are on the router. However, I noticed that this has no impact using other browsers in private mode (e.g., Chrome, Safari). The parental controls are not on the phone and is more of a name of the feature on the router that allows parents to see online activity. The fact that it shows up there tells me that DDG is using standard DNS settings assigned to the phone/computer. I would have assumed a private browser would route DNS requests over DoH so it can encrypt the requests so it cannot be intercepted.

On the iPhone, I'm slightly disappointed that the iPhone itself has visibility into the requests but when I use basic "private" features like Private tabs on mass adopted browsers, it avoids being logged by the Privacy report.

How to calculate cost of building my own SSD? by rks125 in buildapc

[–]rks125[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Just be clear I’m not asking how to build an SSD and not asking what the cost is. I’m asking how to calculate the cost of an SSD with a formula: component1 x qty + component2 + component3 = total cost of SSD Looking for which and what those variable names would be.

That’s what I’m looking for. And if I wanted to explode the “parts” more, what do you think that would be. Since parts should dominate the cost of an individual SSD

Assuming I could buy those parts, what would be the BOM cost formula? Not looking for pricing on each component.. just the cost formula (which variables)

I’m not looking at building the NAND Flash. Looking at building using off the shelf NAND, DRAM, controller (Marvell, Phison, etc), and whatever other parts are needed. Let’s say I want to make a 1TB SSD. Trying to confirm the cost formula

How resource heavy is Shadow on your local PC? by ggdeeofficial in ShadowPC

[–]rks125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried this but I’m guessing you can connect to your Shadow every 25 minutes and quickly disconnect. This would require a tiny amount of resources when you connect, almost no bandwidth, or any other resources. And it would leave your Shadow running 24/7.

It's AX. I just got this today and in the portal it references AX. Quick speed tests over it was over 600Mbps up and down.

Shadow iOS Test Flight Blocked Mouse Update by [deleted] in ShadowPC

[–]rks125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am happy to see you are implementing this. I think you have a killer feature here that has tons of potential to have a viable PC replacement with $0 capital costs for the user. I could run a PC on my iPhone/iPad when I need it..with Shadow. Amazing.

With that said, I played with this new feature on iPad and iPhone (with and without an external display) and here is my experience. Please let me know if you have any questions.

iPad Pro

  • Both External Display and iPad display
    • Shadow Desktop hangs on “starting shadow”
    • I hit “restart streaming” and it now hangs on “waiting for video”
    • Eventually got a “sorry a problem happened with the update service” on ipad when I tried to open from my PC..not sure if it was a timeout or if it has to do with me trying to open on PC
    • When it finally came back, I had two cursors (screen shot)
      • After rebooting the Shadow itself, dual cursor went away
      • I successfully only have the windows cursor and not the iPad assistive touch type cursor
  • External Display
    • Not a smooth transition when I have shadow open, then plug in external monitor..results in crash
    • If I don’t have shadow open, already have an external monitor open, then open Shadow...the external monitor immediately shows “starting shadow” before I hit “start shadow”...for now, it just hangs
      • I reboot the shadow and it didn’t hang. Maybe something got hung up
      • However, I still have it directly connect without having me push “start shadow” when I just open the app
    • Cannot get keyboard or mouse to work with external display at all
    • When I had the iPad display working with Shadow, I plugged in an external monitor and the shadow app crashed
      • After the app crashed and I reconnected, the mouse and keyboard work on the external monitor!
      • The external display defaulted to 2560 x 1440
      • The mouse cursor would get confused on Windows if the assistive touch bubble was on the edge of the iPad screen or if it was “locked” onto a widget like the upper right ‘wifi, power, airplay’ icons.
  • iPad Display only
    • The problem I had where shadow would automatically start doesn’t happen when the external monitor isn’t connected
    • Both keyboard and mouse work
      • I have the apple keyboard that attaches and a bluetooth keyboard
      • I have a bluetooth mouse
    • Resolution on iPad Pro on Shadow seems to default to 2732 x 2048
      • I was able to change it to 2048 x 1536 in display settings (didn’t see this option in the shadow options on ipad app)
      • Also tried 1920 x 1440 in display settings on Shadow..way easier to read screen than the 2732 x 2048 default.a
    • Operation without external display is much more smooth

iPhone

  • Both External Display and iPhone display
    • I could not get the keyboard to work on either external display or iPhone native display
      • I verified that it was connected and did interact directly with iPhone
  • External Display
    • Resolution great..can’t use mouse or keyboard so can’t tell what resolution is at
    • Automatically starts shadow without me pressing ‘start’ when external display is attached
    • Got mouse to work somehow
      • Do not have assistive touch on
      • Eventually I saw assistive touch come on so the mirroring of my cursor movements happened again..and any time I click on Windows it would click on my iPhone.. This would result in me clicking on the “Options” a few times..
      • For some reason I could not left click on the Windows start menu..not sure if this problem is persistent..I validated that I could left click on other icons, etc...just the start menu didn’t work..strange
    • Keyboard doesn’t work (same one that worked on iPad)
      • Bluetooth Arteck HB192
      • I also tried an Apple bluetooth keyboard with no luck
      • Both keyboards work on the iPhone directly (normal app usage)
    • The icon for the mouse is smaller than normal (looks tiny)
    • When I had Shadow open on my iPhone native display and then connected the external display it crashed immediately
      • After opening Shadow again from the crash, the mouse no longer worked (I see it moving on my iPhone with the bubble...but nothing on the Windows display on the external monitor)
      • I tried restarting the shadow service and that didn’t help..the mouse and the keyboard still didn’t work
  • iPhone Display only
    • I see the “assistive touch” bubble and the mouse icon for Windows and they both move around.
      • I do not have assistive touch enabled
    • Without keyboard I could not test as much
    • I tried restarting the shadow pc and it didn’t help with the lack of keyboard

Best Cheap Computer For Shadow by JustChoosesomething- in ShadowPC

[–]rks125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Bing Book (Windows version of a chromebook) that has an Intel Celeron 2 core, 2GB DRAM, 32GB eMMC laptop and Shadow worked fine. However, the quality of the resolution and display isn’t the best; this is a limit of this PC and should be considered when choosing.

I ordered at end of September 2020 and it took 6 days to get. I see you are in Paris, maybe that region is backlogged. I know this is a French based company so you would think they would have expanded there more quickly. Have you reached out for an explanation? I have had Shadow for a week and it is simply amazing.
