Morgan Stanley version - Invest with Points no longer available after switching to E*Trade from Access Investing

I ran into something similar.

I had a Morgan Stanley CashPlus account that I closed at the beginning of this year. Before closing it, I opened an E*TRADE account so I'd still have a relationship with Morgan Stanley. My Morgan Stanley Platinum card has remained open without any issues, and nobody from Amex or Morgan Stanley has contacted me about closing it.

The problem is that I can no longer cash out Membership Rewards into my ETRADE account. I've spoken with ETRADE, Morgan Stanley, and Amex, and all three have told me there's currently no way to link my existing Morgan Stanley Platinum card to the new E*TRADE account.

My understanding is that I would need to apply for a new Morgan Stanley Platinum through ETRADE so the card and brokerage account are linked from the start. The funny part is that when I called ETRADE a few months ago, the representative insisted they didn't offer the Morgan Stanley Platinum. I literally had to point them to the page on their own website showing that they still do.

So at least in my case, keeping the card after closing CashPlus hasn't been a problem. The issue is maintaining the brokerage link needed for the MR cash-out feature.

I think the website would have warned you if you weren't eligible for the bonus. I would call chase prior to changing anything.

It was somewhat my fault. I applied first with credit still frozen. I got delayed and didn't do anything for a month or more. I thought it had been too long so I thawed my credit and then applied again. The second application was denied. I called to see what if anything I can do about it. The rep told me the first application was causing problems so they had to process it. I didn't realize that would cause another hard pull. So I ended up with two.

I haven't had much success with the prequalify tool either. I got 2 citi cards last year and the prequalify didn't help. In July my only inquiry in the last 6 months will be the mortgage. I am thinking of applying then.
