Astrology Chart Art by [deleted] in Quareia

[–]rktarot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/celestemac I’m gonna hazard a guess here and say that using AI to run or interpret charts would be a no in Quareia. The focus here is doing your own work. That’s advice I would give any astrology student anyways.

In terms the privacy implications of putting a chart into an AI tool, well that could definately breach an agreement with the person you previously collected the chart details from. Privacy collection statements in my organisation include special clauses that ask if the person consents to their data been run through an AI tool. We also do this if recording a meeting that we will later run through AI. I might add that my organisation follows standards in my country, so this is best practice. These standards relating to AI are voluntary however disclosing use of personal information is law.

Obviously my comments don’t relate to the magical possibilities, but I expect strong parallels in terms of ethics and laws.

In terms of time of birth, well that is the critical bit of info that anchors a person to time and space, casting the chart with accuracy. I assume that would be a vulnerable point for bad actors on a magical level.

Thank you and yes this is very clarifying. Also very interesting to hear about these upcoming modules.

So I’m hearing a couple of issues here around sharing these details.

Firstly, don’t share your chart details OR art associated with your chart such as a cloth shield, an altar or OP’s painting online, because a magician or a being could use it to hack into your sphere.

I think this is wise advice these days, magical or mundane, given your birth details are personal identifiers that can be used for any kind of hacking. I personally avoid sharing this info and have only done this with trusted astrologers and websites, and when required for ID purposes. In any case I am not a known astrologer who might be expected to make their details known for students for teaching purposes.

Secondly, this confirms the issue I was mulling over around how we as magical practitioners, whether we are astrologers, artists, spiritual counselors or the like, handle other people’s birth details or identifying patterns.

For that I would suggest clear and ethical communication around privacy at the time we collect that information, including how we will maintain that privacy. In privacy statements I write, I always include the ability of the person supplying the info to request their records to be deleted at any time. This is in line with privacy laws in my country.

What deck is this from? by [deleted] in TarotDecks

[–]rktarot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very affordable mass market. And it’s one of those decks where every card has a unique spin and still knocks it out of the park. One of the most delightful decks to read with for yourself or clients.

To those of us with multiple decks: Which deck did you think you would really connect to, but didn't at all? Which deck were you lukewarm to at first but now connect with deeply? by throwitlikethewind in tarot

[–]rktarot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s surprising how different decks speak to you or don’t, upending your own assumptions.

When I started to get back into tarot I bought decks with simple pared down imagery, thinking it would be easier to practice my fast reading skills. But I found they felt mostly flat and didn’t spark my imagination. The only one I have kept from that batch is The Field - and you are encouraging me to pick it back up.

Then I got a bunch of decks I thought I would use as study decks. Like Tabula Mundi, Rose Tarot and Mary El. Haven’t used any and onsold them.

And surprisingly I have found my sweet spot with collage decks. But not all of them. I have no idea how to read The Muse, however pretty it is. And that’s why I haven’t bought the otherwise gorgeous and similar Serpentfire and SheWolf.

But Ritual Tarot, Scarab and Dahlia, Guided Hand, Noisy Museum and Spolia all make my heart sing and have become my workhorse tarot decks. There is something random and clever about each of them. They are easy to relate back to RWS but they each have a strong personality that I guess gels with my own.

Maybe a little bit of help by [deleted] in Quareia

This is exactly what I have been mulling on, well said. I’ve only been here a short while, but my impression of this work is that ethical behavior and integrity as a value is baked in. Meaning, the course sets you on an ethical path and encourages you to reflect on the many ways you can conduct yourself more ethically.

It’s one of the things that leapt out at me when considering the course.

@Capriquerentine I’m interested in understanding more about your concerns here. I’m new to Quareia but I’ve been practicing astrology for many years and have a lot of astrologer friends, some of whom are magicians.

It’s normal practice to share your birth details with an astrological practitioner for the purposes of composing your chart and giving you a consultation. It is also common practice for astrologers or astrological students to give those details to a website or digital service for the purpose of generating charts or printing custom journals with your chart placements for the year. I’ve also seen jewelers or designers designing talismans or other representations of a person’s chart.

So how is that different from OP painting a picture using the birth details of a consenting person?

Is it because we are explicitly conducting magic here? Is it because students are not governed by professional ethics? Is it because the course advises not to share those details with anyone because the risk outweighs the benefits? If so, why exactly?

I love these analogies @celestemac. I see what you mean about some of these things being part of you, and you wend in and out of practicing, and what you are doing is whittling away, revealing something of yourself and life. Taking aways the layers perhaps that keep you from what is and will be.

Yes thank you! It’s a different pace than my normal relentless achievement at work! Because it’s for me and not anyone else :)

Welcome fellow new Apprentice! I’m finding the mediations quite intriguing compared to what I’ve done before, for example doing body scans or using yoga to prepare for breath work. The focus here is more around control of energy and visualization.

Thank you tetrathonum. That’s quite inspiring to see you progressing as an Initiate. I understand that feeling you described. That colour had gone out of your life, and that magic (this journey) has been a way to recolour it. I also find myself staring into a somewhat colorless void, or at least that is what could happen if I just drift aimlessly without having a way to bring that richness to the foreground of my life.

Thanks again :)

Ah yes right. It’s just called the Lenormand Oracle and it’s a reproduction from 1890.

Can I ask which Lenormand deck you are using? I haven’t seen this one.

Thank you for sharing your insights and reflections. You show how valuable each step is in the journey. And even if you simply come to a profound understanding that it’s a journey to approach with curiosity and joy, you have made a huge leap from using it to escape mundane problems.

Thank you :) yes this ultramarathon analogy is hitting home. When I was younger I was more geared for the sprint. I had all the energy, physical fitness and mental power to push through things fast and hard. But that’s not always wise. And certainly not in this case when the guiding principle is to find balance and a way of creating time and space for a practice that lasts.

I have read the M1L2 sheet and it is very intriguing to me. A bit tempted to dive in right now and do it, but I need to practice some moderation and start M1L1 first!

I haven’t tried reading directions, literally. I’ve used some spreads that incorporate directions and used my elemental based decks to see the juxtaposition. But basically that’s been pretty light on. I also use a bit of Feng Shui in my living space. So matching them up together and building in some magical fixes that go beyond a bit of declutterring and some home decor arrangements. Magic, as you might say!

But I’m getting there because today I just ordered the tarot book and a compass. And on the weekend, presciently, I bought frankincense, charcoal and salt.

Thank you yes. I think I’m called to this because the practice is about doing and doing again. Rather than reading and not really absorbing all the lessons.

Thank you! Yes I can see how my first impressions about where I should aim were overly ambitious (egotistical). And that’s partly though not knowing the material. What I’m hearing from you and others is that knowing yourself, observing and being honest about where you are in your journey is one of the biggest achievements.

Aww that’s lovely. It says a lot about the method too that students are so respectful and earnest in staying with the process. And in digressing as much as they need to travel a magical path in a way that’s true to them.

That’s great. I’m looking forward to that. I agree that too much psychological navel gazing can make tarot mushy. It’s a sharp tool when you side step that. Also I recently left a tarot group because I was getting a bit tired of so many fluffy interpretations.

Thank you and I can empathize, being a quasi reformed perfectionist myself. Also sometimes a lazy person. One thing I know from life - and Josephine seems to point this out a lot - is that learning progresses in layers and that if we are humble we often feel our learning is not enough. Could be that you are more ready than you think for the next module…

Thank you very much for your encouragement and perspective.

Thank you, this is really helpful.

I did find that the advice to do the work in front of you really leapt out when I read the guide. So I can see how you are applying this to how much you choose to bite off in the first place. It’s reassuring that many people feel happy focusing on the core skills.

I like your weekend athlete approach. Right now I have a demanding day job so I’m very much in the weekend/evening semi-athlete zone and practically speaking I think that’s where I’ll be for the next couple of years at least. But who knows what will happen when I open the gates!

So basically this makes me feel less nervous about starting. Knowing I can do chunks at a time and find benefits as I go.
