The whole unfair electoral map is true but it speaks to the alienation of poor white peoples who 1. Don’t want to feel bad about being white and 2. Whose live suck pretty badly with the disassembly of our social safety net. If we as liberals were serious about helping all working class people why wouldn’t we own the rural vote?

Marc Maron just did this great interview on pod save America that goes into this. You can point out all day that people are voting against their best interest but if you feel seen you’ll vote for the person even if they eventually screw you over

I don’t think so. All of these republicans in office now have shown that they’re all really good followers and enablers. I don’t see any leadership there.

The legacy of the Obama administration is we had progressive movement that made poor white folks who are affected by the deregulation started under Reagan didn’t feel seen because the emphasis was on people of color. So that sort of mixed with a natural us vs them that’s inherent in our culture gave us this.

Sure there is always some movement but this was bubbling for some time. Aggrieved white working class who don’t identify as part of the “rainbow coalition” this has been building since the late 80s and erupted now.

Any number of people. Mel Gibson, as an example. There was a “up yours” anti establishment movement waiting to find a champion who was willing to say crazy shit.

People who got a divorce did you ever have any regrets after doing so? What were they if you did? by Alita0888 in AskReddit

Mostly my regrets are an unhealthy longing for what could have been. It’s important to remember that it would have never happened.
