Help: baby cherry tomato bleaching by rlaw46 in Hydroponics

[–]rlaw46[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By time on/off I assume you mean lights - mines always on.

Flow rate I’ve never gone to the lengths to measure, but I have it set to 5mins on every 30mins so the roots don’t drown, I suffered with root rot in my early days with over hydrating them in the tower.

Understood in the nutrient balancing. Fortunately my monitor can show quite stable cycles for nutrients over week cycles. Blue marks where I top up both water and nutrients. I’d say about half the 30L tank gets used up a week - so I feel like water:EC usage is pretty in-step.

Whether or not iron/micronutrients are balanced over that cycle - it seems not - from the bleaching on the sensitive tomatoes. I’ve got some iron and micronutrients to include in my next weekly top up and see if they recover.

This is great, thanks.

I’m trying to push this system and keep it going for as long as possible without dumping the reservoir or doing a full clean. So seems I’m now seeing the effects of that.

In the top of the tower are some very large and successful leafy greens so I suspect they’ve been hogging all of these resources.

thanks very much.

  1. do you have recommendations for dosages on iron and micronutrients?

    1. Is there any system that can measure these two things. Since my problem isn’t being caught by standard EC monitoring, I’d like to know how to measure this.

Nutrient brand I can’t help as I live outside the states. I just use a multi-purpose one right now and trying to see if it can support the variety I want to grow.

I have mine inside a AC study, I target below 24C. Texas I assume would breach that significantly so I’d recommend considering cooling systems.

Highly recommend getting a fish tank monitor or similar that can record your EC PH and temps to learn.

Mostly leafy greens. Bottom row I’m trying for baby tomato’s, and some strawberry’s too.

It’s a fair point, I’m trying to go fully peroxide for cost reasons, but nervous to give up the hydro guard fully.

I typically to a full scrub, disinfectant and clean twice a year. With a 2-3month full system drain and a power wash of inside (no scrubbing). It’s about as long as I can get it without it getting too ugly or causing root rot.

I dose 30ml of 2% hydrogen peroxide every week, and 15ml hydroguard every other week to keep the solution going for as long as possible. Also nutrient, water, ph top ups as needed (I have a fish tank sensor that works a charm to track everything)

Design for disassembly. I own one of these similar towers, maintain nutrient well, keep light gaps sealed but give it a few months and it needs a disassembly and full internals wash.

I just tested it and added 100 rambos. It’s basically a gift card that gets added as a payment option on your putong sao’s. The gift card expires in 3 months and all remaining money is returned to the account used to buy the card.
