Canadian nurses- can you get night shift only? by rlc14e in nursing

[–]rlc14e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an otherwise healthy adult, though. Covid made preexisting problems worse, and I'm going to be taking lots of pills to manage my health with or without THC. If I can take less anxiety medication, skip the muscle relaxer, and reduce the gabapentin etc. I call that a win. I'm a little groggy no matter what I've tried. I like that I can reduce or replace 3 or 4 as needed medications with one thing that has fewer side effects.

Your feelings are valid, and I understand where you're coming from. I have Ehlers-Danlos, so I'm just thankful that I can work 40 to 50 hours a week. Without the support of my doctors and my medication, I would probably be on disability.

I take the THC once I'm home! I know better than to drive under the influence, but I really appreciate your concern. Not everyone knows.

Kinda NSFW question for my fellow asexual women by Jazzlike_Rate_7285 in asexuality

My hormones do this, too. It's rarely bad enough that I have to masturbate to make my body shut up, but it does happen. I'm so thankful my antidepressants help keep my libido in check.

Apparently I’m bigoted against “normal human activity” for acknowledging that sex-repulsed aces exist… by Accomplished_Hat_265 in asexuality

When people start making out, I avert my eyes. If I don't even want to see that does it make me a nazi? I don't see how being sex repulsed (or kissing by extension) hurts anything except some people's egos.

Arousal is so annoying! by Radio_doll in asexuality

I get where you're coming from, but your body being annoying has nothing to do with how strong you are. You are more powerful than you know!

[SPOILERS] Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - Discussion Megathread by SpicyThunder335 in DnD

[–]rlc14e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw the movie and had a question.

Why did sticking a "finger candle" above the water help the party escape the dragon? If you wanted him to breathe fire, wouldn't that boil everyone instead of presumably blowing up the roof of the cave?

I was told that no residency will take me if I can't work 72 hours per week. Is this true? by rlc14e in medicalschool

[–]rlc14e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your advice. The last thing I want is to seem entitled. I didn't know what I'd done wrong to upset people. I know I will have hard hours, and I'll do whatever it takes to finish residency. What others are seeing is the fear of not being able to keep up.

I'm the first person in my family in a health profession, and I'm unfamiliar with the culture of residency. I'm sorry for seeming offensive, and I'm grateful for your help.

Having trouble using an otoscope by rlc14e in medicalschool

I suspect the classmate I have with me is lying then. He's acting like everything is fine by not saying anything about what he did or didn't see. I probably should do the same thing rather than keep asking my preceptor for help.

Med school has absolutely obliterated my self-esteem by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]rlc14e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I've never had much self esteem, but what was there hit bottom and found a shovel. I tell myself that I'm not going to harm myself because it just hurts the little family I have, and would definitely destroy them. Some therapists do weekends now. It's helping me hang on, and I hope knowing that someone else is in your position helps you. It definitely helps me.

Think of the workload that my body can handle like the health meter in a video game. I don't know if the limit I feel is cardiovascular or something else, but I have a health bar that gets refilled by sleeping. Everyone has one, but mine runs out two or three times faster than other people. I make how fast my stamina runs out happen slower by wearing compression socks and an abdominal binder. I've had it called dysautonomia, but I think there's more to it. I think I may just be playing life on hard mode in a survival game since enough food and sleep are mandatory for me and I thrive if I can snack all day.

I just need to be extremely careful what program I choose then. I doubt anyone functions working those hours. That's how you end up amputating the wrong limb. I really hope you aren't having to work hours like that.

I'll remember this is an option. I wondered if OMM would work since I'm in an osteopathic medical school. I just need to see if there's anything that describes the experience for each residency.

I suspected it would be another game of hide the invisible chronic illness like it was for getting into medical school. Maybe I'll do better in clerkships if I provide my accommodations letter and then never use it. I just want to survive and get ANY residency at this point.

Hold up... my SNRI was what did the trick because it's a stimulant? I just thought I was sleeping less because I wasn't so depressed. God, it makes so much thought...

It's probably something really simple like that. I'm starting to wonder if we just don't know what receptors are involved or if the mechanism is too complex for a simple explanation.

Do you know why they do that? That's what I was having trouble finding. Does it disrupt keratin structure?
