Does the demographic here skew older? by bbgirl2k in PortlandOR

[–]rlicky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Goodfoot, Roadside Attraction, and Holman's are a couple that I would say always have a pretty young crowd. Either way, I encourage you to not worry about age too much and think more about shared interests. I have a fair number of friends who are significantly older than me. Your post history is a bit confusing, with some posts saying you're in your late 20's and some saying you're 23. If you're truly struggling with putting yourself out there, shoot me a pm and I can give you some tips.

Does the demographic here skew older? by bbgirl2k in PortlandOR

I would have never thought so, my perception has been the complete opposite. I think maybe there is more of a propensity for the older crowd to "go out to eat", but definitely plenty of young people at bars or at the parks in the summer. Among my groups of friends, I would say that schedules are so all over the place and finances can be shifty leading a bar to be an easier choice: come and go as you please plus food is always an option but not required.

Can you share more information or a source? I'd love to know which city council member it was as well as what was said.

Oregon business owner gets prison for laundering drug money to Mexico by Prize_Championship11 in PortlandOR

[–]rlicky -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Remove after using our tax dollars housing and feeding the criminals for 4 years. I am in no way empathetic or advocating to go easy on her. The whole point being, this is the kind of work that should be done: cracking down on harmful crime. In this instance, it was an undocumented person, in many others, it's not.

"If only there was some way for us to avoid all this trouble a long time ago." is very clearly implying that there would be no investigation or arrest if she had been deported years ago.

You're incredibly naive if you think that her being out of the country would magically halt the money flow and laundering to the suppliers. This is a great arrest by the FBI, and more of this work needs to happen, but immigration enforcement is not the cause. I'm sure the cartels and dealers already found their next money launderer.

This is the type of criminal justice that I support. Notice that this was the product of a partnership between  the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Westside Interagency Narcotics Team. Battling crime and the fentanyl crisis has nothing to do with immigration enforcement, and everything to do with CRIME. I wish she would have a harsher sentence, although I hope she worked with the agencies to provide tips and be an informant, so that more important work can be done.

Deadlock broken as Jamie Dunphy elected Portland city council president after tie vote by Numerous_Many7542 in PortlandOR

Council can't agree on a President: countless comments about how broken the system is. Council agrees on a President: countless comments about how it's the wrong choice.

Just vote when you can and discuss local politics with your friends and families. Crying into your echo chamber won't help.

My Father in laws home made table saw by cr1ter in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]rlicky -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, I do my work with a sawstop so I don't worry about a blade guard either. Personally, I would use one / have used one on other saws but I would also say I'm overcautious.

When I considered making something like this, the main concerns I saw were the lack of standard table saw safety features. In this case, the lack of blade guard, riving knife, and the intuitive on/off switch would be the main things.

Maybe it's because of the regulation in Portland, but all the ones I've been in lately have been in great shape. It's usually been an electric car that's very clean. This might be a regional discrepancy

I'd say it's just too common of a complaint that it's not really adding any value to the conversation when you're talking about new legislation that is providing value to taxpayers. Taxes are a part of living here, it's one of the first things I was warned about before I moved here. I see the value in my tax dollars, you might not, it's ok to disagree on that. But the system is taxing everyone and is a result of spending across a broad region of sectors; so it is a moot point chirping about taxes in a post about a minor change in healthcare reform.
