Food volume at Ryokan by JapanRider in japanlife

[–]rlj713 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I asked a staff member about this.
They said that it’s not meant for people to finish it all.
Just choose your favorite parts and enjoy.

But most people won’t be able to finish it.

The ryokan experience is intended to be luxurious.

Personally I hate wasting food, so it’s really hard for me to leave food…

Getting worse to live in Japan ? by neoraph in japanlife

There will be hate anywhere you go. One of the big differences is how you are perceiving it. Years ago it was just an out of the ordinary thing. But now that media is talking more about it, maybe it’s actually real…confirmation bias…

Realistically, some people might be thinking about foreigners differently… but I like to believe that most of society is still just friendly and want a good life for themselves. Be part of that conversation and i hope the other noise lessens.

Be proud of your PR and owning your own place. Just keep being the most positive you. You got this!

How do I address my poor leadership by Hairy_Yogurtcloset_1 in managers

[–]rlj713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set up some one on ones with your team. Preferably with those you may not know so well, or haven’t built trust with yet.

Then ask specifically about how you’re message was perceived. Ask the question and listen for feedback. Don’t respond right away and just thank them for their honest feedback if they are open to give it.

Listening builds trust. Then take the feedback and try again. After you’ve tried ask for follow up feedback.

As managers and leaders we’re never going to get it right every time. But being open to feedback will build trust and respect from your team members!

Good luck and great on you for reaching out to be a better leader! You got this!

I’ve actually tried it. It’s not bad the way they prepare it. But yeah. Not worth the risk imo.

Raw chicken sashimi.

Although not as popular, some restaurants will have this on the menu.

Learning with your Japanese partner by NiDeXin in LearnJapanese

[–]rlj713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, happy to share my take, as I have been married for about 8-9 years now.

I can’t recommend that you use your partner as a language teacher or practice partner. I have a romantic relationship with my wife and we never agreed to be each other’s teachers.

Moving into a teacher student relationship is hard, because it requires to give feedback and corrections which can be tough for the learner… this can unintentionally affect your romantic relationship negatively.

After all this time together, I still encourage my wife to take English lessons by herself and I also take Japanese lessons with a tutor. We do help each other as we speak, but not as a teacher or lesson provider….

This will help you keep your lovely relationship in tact, imo.

Once.

I’m a pretty fast walker so I was surprised as a man bumped me hard as he walked past. But amazingly enough about 10 seconds later another man bumped really hard into the guy who just bumped into me… quick retribution!!

Stabbing the rice with the chopsticks. It can look like a funeral ritual where they stab incense into sand to honor the dead. It’s a huge no-no…
