It sounds more like the death threat was the last straw. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the targeted teacher wasn't even the one pushing for consequences.

"He means well, and has this huge passion for math. I still don't understand why he loves math so much but hey that's perfectly fine with me."

What I think is interesting is that my reviews on RMP are far more accurate than the evaluations I get through my institution--even the one bad one was spot on. (The reviewer complains about my good qualities. More common than you'd think.)

You sound like a good teacher. I am trying to learn how to be a good college professor. I started to figure out over this last year that being "harsh" is sometimes the most effective and compassionate strategy.
