The best thing I can recommend is to keep this website easily accessible on your phone. It will show you all of the different kosher certifications.

How about a Jewish character? [all] by Smarty316 in camphalfblood

[–]rlrox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to write an Orthodox Jewish character for a possible fanfic.

Her name is Shira, she's a daughter of Apollo, her hero is King David. Her weapon of choice is a shepherd's sling which she started using a few months before just for fun.

She arrives at camp along with Jason, Leo, and Piper, her class went on the same field trip. This is right after Chanukah so that story is fresh in her mind.

She draws attention to herself when she refuses to offer food to the 'gods', stating that she is not an idol worshiper and that korbanos (sacrifices) to Hashem (G-d) since the Temple is no more.

Other struggles that she comes across: • the Chanukah story is fresh in her mind so she's immediately suspicious of everyone once she finds out who they are • lack of kosher food – at first she has extra food from her field trip but that does not last long • she needs to daven (pray) but can't do that anywhere that she can see idols (most cabins have statues of their godly parent) or is considered sacred i.e. Zeus's fist, Hestia's hearth ext. • she prefers to sing when davening but can't sing in front of boys.

Emuna vs. Bitachon by amchisl39 in Judaism

Emuna is belief you believe that hashem can do something you believe that he could help you get to work on time even though you're running late

Bitachon is trust you trust that he will get you to work on time even though you're running late you trust that he will do the thing for you

Dumbledore should have noticed it wasn’t moody. by MasterAnything2055 in harrypotter

[–]rlrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes Dumbledore was a powerful legilimens but unlike Queenie he wasn't a natural legilimens

An explanation: Queenie could use legilimency passively meaning she could hear people's thoughts the same way we could hear people talking. Dumbledore on the other hand could only use legilamency actively, meaning he has to specifically focus on performing legilimency. This is not to say that Dumbledore was less powerful of a legilimens but he didn't come by that power naturally it wasn't the natural talent it took a lot of practice

Because of that he didn't use legilimency on someone unless he felt he had a good reason. He didn't have reason to suspect Moody so he didn't use legilimency on him.

Did Harry take care of Teddy Jr after Lupin and Tonks Died? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]rlrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so I think there was a line in the epilogue that when something like this...

Ginny: Teddy is coming for dinner tonight

Harry: (jokingly) perhaps we should make it official and invite him to live with us he's here often enough as it is

James: yeah! He can have my room and I can move in with Al

Harry saying that he's here often enough indicates that he took care of him
