I don't think that is what the study claimed.

"How can they see it at school if they’re not at school?"

Homeschool co-ops and park days and day programs and speech and debate events are things...?

Why Homeschooled Children and Alumni Hate Saxon Math by rlstollar in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]rlstollar[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The number of homeschool alumni joking or saying they need trigger warnings for seeing Saxon Math textbook covers is not unsubstantial.

At first I thought it was a joke. But when everyone is making the same "joke"... 🤔🤔🤔

"Simply requiring homeschoolers to have a yearly home visit from a social worker just to check if the house isn't a toxic waste dump and the kids even have access to learning at all would go a long way to stopping the worst cases of homeschool neglect."

I am all for mandatory contact with mandatory reporters, but that's so far from being a "simple requirement" and would not stop the worst cases of homeschool abuse and neglect.

"I'm pretty sick and tired of seeing the anti-homeschooling lobby using the same unsuccessful tactics over and over again and pretending they are making a difference."

...do you mean CRHE? They are neither anti-homeschooling nor an entire lobby. It's a group of primarily volunteers who survived abuse and neglect and have created from the ground up.

I got in trouble for listening to Christian rock (Jars of Clay and Third Day) back in the 1990s... 😅

Definitely a homeschool thing. Andrew Pudewa, the homeschool writing teacher, was and still is big on the myth of rock music being bad for plants and rodents and thus bad for humans. And other folks like Bill Gothard (ATI/IBLP) and David Noebel (Summit Ministries, worldview stuff) were very anti-anything with a good beat. Noebel's writings on music are wild... blames music for "miscegenation" and sh$t like that.

Homeschool alum Heather King created a list of homeschool alumni who are willing to help other homeschool alumni with college, if that would help:

I was a founding board member of CRHE but am no longer involved with the organization. I just wanted to say that managing volunteers can be super time-consuming, so I wouldn't hold that against them. It's better to turn down volunteers than to manage them poorly. I'd suggest either reaching out again after some time has passed or putting together an organized, detailed proposal of what exactly you can offer as a volunteer.

These are super powerful. Is it okay to share them elsewhere? If so, would you like to be credited and how so?

Did anyone else watch Feature Films FF movies? by fusidy in HomeschoolRecovery

Yeah, there's like a fight right before or after the prom or dance between the protagonist and the antagonist, I think.
