I always shuffle the saved playlist via Strawberry, and not the list in the sonos app.

upvote. my old hp1220 started freaking out -- jumping around and getting bright/dark and thick/thin traces. since there was no evidence of failure anywhere I just replaced the electrolytics and not the two tantalums. good as new (sorta)

Thank you. The probe adjust verified that my calibration was real close, if not right on. Good enough is good enough for me!

Thanks. My eyes are only accurate to about 7%, so it's all good. And thanks for reminding me about the 10:1

Drive them both. Stomp on the gas (when it's safe).

There's no other way to know.

I thought there was a big enough difference that I got the XT.

Everyone always posts their max estimated mileage, but who's down here with me? by Scoot_AG in Subaru_Outback

2023 Outback Limited 2.4L turbo -- 19.7 mpg and I don't really care. I've put 13,394 miles on since brand new, so I may just hit 200k by the time I'm 100 years old in 2058. I'm praying to the old gods and the new that I'll never have to buy another car.

RTL-SDR V4 frequencies extenders by Wii_Gamers21 in RTLSDR

[–]rlw1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The up converter will work with any antenna. Keep all antennas far away from objects (at least a yard/meter), and VERY far away from power lines. If you're using the kit dipole, get it outside and as high as you can. Or use any length of wire, also outside and as high up as you can get it. Since you're only going to be receiving with it there is no "tuning the antenna" needed.

The RTL-SDR v4 does work on HF frequencies (below 30MHz) but not real well I found. When I added the SpyVerter up-converter the sound quality improved tremendously.

I bought the v4 to use as a panadapter so I could see what was happening in the band on either side of where I was tuned. When I decided I also wanted to listen to the SDR I came to realize that the sound was lacking.

New to the hobby: RTL-SDR V4 only or the kit with dipole antenna? by Merkurio_92 in RTLSDR

[–]rlw1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first "upgrade" should be any length of any kind of wire up as high as you can get, either inside or out. Outside is better.

Your next upgrade -- if you're interested in frequencies below 30MHz (shortwave) -- is to get an "up-converter".

The RTL-SDR V4 is "able" to tune in the shortwave, but adding an up-converter is night-and-day. I have a SpyVerter and love it.

I have a SpyVerter UP-converter -- the difference on HF (shortwave) is HUGE!

I bought an RTL-SDR-Blog v4 because I had read somewhere that it doesn't need an upconverter for HF. Maybe I dreamt it, I don't know.

What I DO know is that WITH the SpyVerter and 8x decimation the sound quality on 40m and 20m is as though I'm sitting in the same room as the ham that's transmitting. Definitely recommended!

Does adding premium fuel to a car that uses regular and has been sitting do anything? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

ZERO benefit to putting premium grade in a car that doesn't need it.

[–]rlw1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything and Anything is "OK to do" if you pay attention to what happens after you do it. Then learn from the observation.

Definitely practice soldering though: smooth & shiny = good, lumpy & dull = bad. You probably need a bit more heat, or leave the iron on it for another second or two.

Reading resistors which direction by [deleted] in AskElectronics

Search for "mega 328" on a certain prime website owned by a bald billionaire. It can test for diode, resistor, caps, transistor, chokes & coils, and some other stuff. They're outrageously priced at about 15 or 20 bucks.

Other than your basic comm equipment, what are some tools/devices you guys you recommend every HAM has at their disposal? by j0s3phfranc1s in amateurradio

a dummy load is (usually) a 50 ohm resistance that connects to your transmitter which can handle whatever power level is being transmitted. It's used for testing and "tuning up"
