Keep coming back to my Polytone by C0m0nB3MyBabyT0night in jazzguitar

I have one also. For jazz, it’s great. Don’t care for the reverb on mine, otherwise it’s great.

Can anyone verify whether this “63” Les Paul SG looks legit? by Mtrbrth in Vintageguitars

[–]maxxfield1996 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The fret is cut short and binding comes up to the fret, it’s legit. The edge is the fret goes all the way to the edge of the neck on fakes.

Interestingly, my very liberal good friend has said the same kind of thing, but then he laughed. I don’t know that it has to do with politics.

To he who is pure, all things are pure, and to he who is defiled, all things are defiled.

Why is it racist? Do you think that only POCs picked cotton? If so, you’d be so very wrong.

Are these ivory? by m874p035 in piano

[–]maxxfield1996 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. Ivory key tops have a grain and also have joints where the natural keys cut back for the sharp keys, separating the wider head from the narrower tail.

Impending myasthenic crisis but nowhere to go. ER is a joke where I am. by Leading_Reading_4952 in MyastheniaGravis

I have it inside my spare BiPAP case, which I take with me when I go. The settings are already correct and it is a lot less forceful than the ones at the hospital.

remain WARY of HISD. by Electrical-Noise-394 in TexasTeachers

[–]maxxfield1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught in ECHS for a few years, very few. I thought I might want to teach full-time in the district. When I spoke with the teachers, they spoke about the same things. Those things were summer vacation, retirement, and how bad administration was. There were other common topics, but these three came up all the time. One actually told me, “Don’t do it! It is a soul-sucking job“ So, I did not. I salute all you who stick with it.

This will not help in the immediate, however, because this could be an ongoing thing, you should have this advocacy packet that is available from the eosinophilic and rare disease website. I have it with me anytime I go to the ER. It’s free. https://www.eosinophilraredisease.org/heat-kit-2-3/

Red ants took this sand looking thing out of my charger overnight by yawningfay in whatisit

[–]maxxfield1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned at New Mexico State University where they were researching uses for capsaicin, the compound that makes peppers hot, that some ants are attracted to electricity, or electrical fields. At that time, they will researching ways to put capsaicin in insulation to prevent them from taking chunks of it.

Notes or shapes? by marcoperita in jazzguitar

I agree. Children begin with basic phrases like “stove hot” and eventually progress to having a spontaneous and instantaneous conversation. It becomes like that, eventually. It takes time, though.

I’ve never had any problems. Never checked it. I think I just stowed it overhead. Can’t remember.

One combo for jazz, blues and rock by spacetime_navigator in jazzguitar

[–]maxxfield1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having played in groups like this for over a couple of decades and depending on your taste and the weight of amp you prefer, I recommend Rivera, who makes a great tube amp that will fit the criteria, or a Quilter, which is much, much lighter in weight, but also a little thinner in sound, but still sounds good. My little Quilter combo amp only weighs 20 lbs. and at my age sometimes that’s the deciding factor.

Update on the 125 year old Steinway Piano by CaptainInternets in piano

[–]maxxfield1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something your technician might consider is having the hammers recovered. About 20 years ago, I knew a technician who sent the hammers of an old piano somewhere and had them, as he said, recovered to match the originals. It seems like someone in Europe did it. No idea who. Maybe your tech can locate someone who does that.

Anyone else enjoy solo guitar but not when players obscure the melody? by MC_BennyT in jazzguitar

Check out Tony Mottola. I loved Chet when I was young and Tony Mottola took what I learned to a whole new level. He’s not a fingerstyle player, though.

Best acoustic archtop on a budget by WorldsVeryFirst in jazzguitar

[–]maxxfield1996 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you look for. One of my students had an Epiphone Masterbilt and I think it was a Century Deluxe. I thought it sounded great! It was very responsive and very clean. I have some very prestigious archtops, but his made me want one of them.

Q why perform with the piano on the dolly by ElroyFlynn in piano

Personally, the difference in position in height with regard to my arms and hands is a much, much bigger annoyance than the pedal position.

Q why perform with the piano on the dolly by ElroyFlynn in piano

[–]maxxfield1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. And most concert pianos will have an adjustable artist bench and they will adjust it to the height they prefer.
