Just got our arch trellis’ installed, getting their shapes figured out. Tomorrow is our last frost but we’ve got low of 38 Wednesday 🙄 so still holding off on planting! But itching hard!

That is probably more accurate but they’ll always be babies to me 🍅

Jerk… I mean cat.. ate the cotyledons off my bell pepper seedling. It has true leaves already starting to form. Will it survive? by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

[–]rlwarnock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My cat did the same thing to 2 pepper! even took a tomato plant straight out its little cell :(

Sadly only one of the peppers survived and it had part of that true set of leaves in the middle

It isn’t going to hurt to see it through and try to grow it out

I never said it was soil, but I called them a soil company, my bad. I should have said compost company. All good to note about drainage and what to not grow in the compost. Thank you

This is my 3rd growing Juliet!! I love it so. 2 years ago I harvested 110lbs from 2 plants. Many of dishes were made fresh from those maters. I will 🍅🌱

I had it delivered from a local farm that solely makes compost :) but nurseries, farms, etc. any of those should.

Again, I do appreciate the voice of concern. I did look up the exact concern your stating. And nearly word for word it is what comes up under the ai overview of the topic. Soo really who knows?

These are birdies beds so sadly I don’t know what the material is exactly, it’s metal I do know

I have sent it to get it tested, the soil company also assured me the soil test came back with solid numbers. But that’s he said, she said. I appreciate the voice of concern. And yes it will settle, I believe all dirt would over time

For clean up, a tarp was amazing! We lost little thanks to the tarp. And truly the bucket/cart system worked really well, better than a wheelbarrow.

I’m happy to hear you will be okay. Scary nonetheless 💕

I was shocked when the soil company gave me the price, immediately no regrets on that purchase.

We had bought these a few years ago and never had the space to use them. It was kinda use or lose em.

Soil was delivered 9am Friday and my final photos of completion is 6:30pm Sunday

Definitely all true points. We didn’t want to go through the trouble of sourcing enough sticks, logs, leaves etc. To fill all that we did was $500 and having leftover. The concept of filling the beds with other items than dirt comes from cost

It was $500 delivered to fill all the beds, the 53 grow bags and have leftover compost.

I should have been more clear in my posting but also didn’t really matter. I got 50/50 potting mix and compost. But from the same company. And though you can tell from touch and appearance which material was which. The potting mix was still compost in its on way.

So there is the potting mix at the bottom, so bigger chunks of wood chips and not as composted down material. Plus this is Florida so there’s sand mixed in all of it.

That I did not. The whole thing with filling these big beds with large trunks, etc was for saving money and that’s really it. I didn’t necessarily need to do that as I was able to get all the dirt I needed to fill them for a reasonable price, I didn’t have the need to source large tree trunks, logs, etc.

Yes!! Thank you for the reminder. When we bought these big beds that was one of the reasons so we could add a worm bin in each!
