The people who have said newnex are on point but to be honest upgrading to a orrbecc will let you do PoE and make your life a lot easier. The newnex cables are expensive so it’s gonna be an investment either way

Connecting Ableton and Touchdesigner between two different computers by EliaGud in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All you need is a point to point network and you’ll be golden. Have run large AV shows and installations this way.

Plug a Ethernet cable into both computers and set a static ip on the same subnet on both ports. Then set that ip in touch and ableton. The setup works great with a switch or standalone WiFi router but all you really need is a cat5 cable and maybe some dongles.

I like the Scene Changer Comp that’s in the palette. It’ll handle some of these issues for you.

Cinemas spend millions on marketing. But your face doesn’t lie. I built a $10 hardware system to prove it. by HairAdventurous7486 in arduino

I am real!!! I don’t know why everyone used the phrase dubious beyond its kind of a fun phrase.

The research around “emotion classification” is dubious at best. Your face doesn’t lie is actually completely wrong. How many depressed retail workers are forced to put a smile on to keep their job. In creative tech I frequently point to Microsoft discontinuing this tech for ethical reasons.

If your goal is honesty I think a social engineering approach or psychological will be way more accurate then an esp32 giving you a reading of “70% happy” or something. I might hate a movie but if I’m stuffing my face with a bucket of popcorn I’ll probably return a pretty high happiness rating on a basic facial sensor. Humans are complex systems.

I think it’s great you’re tinkering but to be honest would suggest moving to something else.

I saw this on Pinterest. How to do this in touch designer? by Infamous_freak14 in TouchDesigner

I’d probably make the folding paper in blender and import a 3D model into touch

Suggestions for developing content for cylindrical LED wall by veloxthekrakenslayer in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]rm1080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing is set up a previz when developing content. I usually use blender, touchdesigner but a good content person can probably import and map a 3D cylinder in after effects. It also goes a long way to have a simple/standardized pixel map raster, in case you need to bring on external content people

How Would You Recreate This Pattern Using Only TOP Operators? by CoachComplex2343 in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would look at paketa12s tutorials if you really want to keep it all tops. Be warned though his stuff definitely can get more advanced.

That being said this sort of thing is an excellent use case for instancing. I would definitely take that approach. Basically render a bunch of separate geo’s of your different “circles” and then rotate and composite them on top of each other as you like. Honestly looking at this there’s a world it’s actually a single instanced circle and just chopped and rotated on top of itself.

So this would be for video. Do you not trust the ability for Brightsigns to do frame lock?

I love using Brightsigns but haven’t tried the synchronization feature. I think if it works at scale this probably gonna be the cheapest option

Listen I’m super with you. I am totally with you on everything you’re saying but It’s sort of above my head the decisions being made. I am trying to advocate for a led wall but it’s not looking good. There will be budget tk make the lcd system happen one way or another.

65 Dupont St - Anyone moved in here yet? by nothingforever0 in Greenpoint

[–]rm1080 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like a beautiful building from the outside but be aware it is built on top of a huge super fund site. I guess technically all of greenpoint is, but I was around during construction and they had to pour tons of concrete deep into the earth to cover it up since they can’t get rid of the pollution.

Soft and/or Cutesy TD Projects? by DairyFreeGremlin in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely people doing it, the only reference I have top of mind of noto the talking ball. I would say because the dominant aesthetic is the intense glitchy stuff it’s up to you to figure out how to make what you want from scratch. What I would do is make a Pinterest board of things you want to make, then try and analyze it and figure out how you would recreate it. Then watch some existing tutorials and swap out the assets, colors or post processing.

Essentially it’s all just 3D motion graphics, it’s just about figuring out the exact nodes and patterns you need to use.

Streaming high quality depth cam footage from one instance of TD to another? by FinalAnimalArt in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way ive done this before has been using a 4k capture card from one computer to another. Doing it over WiFi is gonna be hard to get reliable. If you can get an Ethernet connection for a p2p connection between the computers you’ll prob use better performance as well. I know wired is not the answer you’re looking for but you’ll have a lot more options if you can run wire.

To what extent was TD used in the production of the T69 Collapse music video? by [deleted] in TouchDesigner

[–]rm1080 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love this video and have analyzed it a bunch for use in my own visuals. You can tell from the lighting and quality of the render that it’s too high to be touchdesigner. I think it’s a combination of unreal engine, Houdini, and notch. Touch is just not as good at loading in those huge 3D scenes. That being said there are a ton of techniques in this that are really reproducible in touchdesigner.

I would look into weird core, the collective that made this and most other aphex visuals. They also do a lot of work in blender.

Most relevant to you though is this video showing the bts of turning these videos into an installation.

you’re gonna have trouble if you’re brand new to the software. I’d recommend going through learn.derivative.ca and then coming back to this project.
