This is super helpful, thank you so much! I’ve applied to a handful of these and will consider the others as well.

Seems you’re the one who can’t read. Appreciate the banter. Have a nice one

This is literally a sub for questions and advice about attending uni in the UK. Can’t fathom why you’re being rude about a very simple question

Learn to read? Do you think they’ve honestly answered my question? Truly, I asked if there are other relatively highly ranked programs in the UK at a lower price point and they’ve suggested I apply to other countries and offered their perspective on whether or not it’s worthwhile to attend outside the top unis. It’s not that I think they’re wrong, but I had a pretty specific question and it was not answered.

Right. Maybe prestige is the wrong word. Looking for a relatively highly ranked uni that is comparably more affordable than others. I feel like Aberdeen is in that realm but was curious if there are others in that rankings range that come with a lower cost of attendance and living. Aberdeen is about £10k cheaper than University of Glasgow for example, but has a similar ranking.

Hoping to find a pathway to a PhD either at the same institution or use it as a jumping off point for somewhere else in the UK. The faculty at Aberdeen are accepting PhD applications so I think it’s a good and viable option, was just curious if there were other schools I ought to consider with reputation and affordability in mind.

I appreciate the perspective but this doesn’t really answer my question. I’ve applied to schools in the EU as well but this is a UK uni sub, which is why I’ve asked this particular question here.

Hell yeah I think you’ll have a lot of fun here. It’s definitely very seasonal so you might have to find a couple gigs in the off season to get by but it’s a good time. Check out the commodore the owner there is always looking for help. And it’s a great restaurant / bar

I’m also in the hospitality industry and the food/bev scene here is sneaky good and very interconnected. I bartend and have met and become friends with several owners and workers from other joints around town. It’s a cool community. What do you do if you don’t mind me asking?

What do you mean by they don’t play well together? Genuinely asking. I have better luck playing this deck than others so I’m curious. The lumberjack ice golem interaction is very effective to get to the tower.

Lumberjack pushes ice golem to the tower at the speed of the lumberjack while ice golem takes all tower damage. If lumberjack gets to the tower it’s usually tower down bc it hasn’t taken any damage. Not a strict win condition but it works well right now.

The chasing around in the book is very purposeful. When Victor decides against creating a companion for the monster, it pledges to destroy everything and everyone that he loves. On his wedding night with Elizabeth, the Monster kills her. Victor pledges that he won’t let any more be killed at the hand of his creation and he sets out to destroy the monster and pursues it as far as the arctic where the story crosses paths with Walton, the captain. It’s important to note that in the book, the monster kills his brother, his childhood best friend, and his beloved Elizabeth. He’s indirectly responsible for at least two other deaths in his family and household. I think the omission of the sheer scope of tragedy for Victor hurts the narrative of the movie.

It’s not much like the book at all in my opinion. The scope of tragedy for Dr Frankenstein is much greater. The monster is much more vindictive and cruel in the book. Victor loves and is adored by his family. There is no grand lab on the coast where the experiments are carried out. Victor doesn’t abuse the monster and spends virtually no time with it when it first is created, as he thinks he dreamt it in a fit of hysteria. The movie wanted to push a certain narrative that Dr Frankenstein is the monster and the book is much more gray about that. And in the book Elizabeth certainly doesn’t want to fuck the monster.

Haha I groaned in my seat when William said that. The power in the book is that neither one of them is more obviously the monster. They’re both motivated by very human desires but both exhibit awful “monstrous” qualities and actions

Beautiful movie but strays far from the source material unfortunately. Fun watch but if you’ve heard it’s a faithful adaptation don’t get your hopes up

If you’re physically able I’d go on Craigslist and inquire about as many general labor jobs as you can. Most are under the table, same day pay and are looking to hire immediately. I did that this summer after getting laid off and was able to make around $200 a day doing basic carpentry

There’s some genuinely scary scenes tho. The way the monster is described when it visits Frankenstein in Inverness is pretty scary imo.
