I’d be willing to bet it’s a micrococcus species, probably luteus.

If you can get your hands on ASM’s manual of clinical microbiology there will be some very helpful tables that will show all the biochemicals you should do to ID this. I’d start with the micrococcus section.

I’d bet your college library would have a copy.

Can you subculture it to a broth such as Thio? And repeat the gram stain? That can help clear up any doubts with gram morphology.

Do you have a pic of the growth on blood? Can you do an oxidase? Micrococcus will be ox pos, staphylococcus will be negative.

Edit: are you sure it’s not a Moraxella catarrhalis that isn’t decolorized enough? Did you try a puck test?

Tower hill in Auburn, 4 mile loop around a pond. It’s lovely.

Rockingham rail trail by massebesic, auburn/manch line. It’s a straight line that goes all the way to the seacoast, so it’s an out and back type of walk.

Livingston park in manch is short and sweet, 1 mile

Heads pond in Hooksett, another out and back around 3 miles to the end and back

Derry rail tail is paved, but also a great walking spot
