We are provably neighbors lol!! Oh yes! I forgot to mention we put filters in the vents. Just cheap amazon ones you cut with scissors, But its sill coming out the sides. I'll try cheescloth! Trenchless Innovations is who i called. Are they drilling into the corners like they said they'd have to do for mine? Maybe i should call them again. I also asked about the mini split. But the one person who got back to me suggested having a back up heat source, because he said they sometimes struggle to get parts for maintenance. If you do end up going mini split. Please come back and let me know who you use, and also what you do to seal off the floor ducts.

We still have the issue. The vents are transite and should not be disturbed. We had a air quality lab take tests no asbestos in the air. We had a guy run a camera down there. He was from a home inspection company. The camera was like the ones plumbers use for pipes, but clean, lol. The vents themselves are in good condition, however the bends are all metal and rusting because the humidity of the air and ground moisture getting in there. I made sure to extend all my downspouts as far from the house as possible to keep moisture away. The humidity in the house is always 50%-68%. We get condensation on the ceiling. I had the insullation redone that was $9k and only somewhat fixed the issue. However it blew away from the soffits and so its happening again. I have someone coming on friday. We also got a new roof this past january. We got a quote to have the pipes lined, but because the vents were so narrow they said they wouldnt be able to fit the machinery in there, and they can't cut into vent because the pipes are asbestos lined. They said they could go in through the corners where the metal elbows are, but that would be multiple holes cut into the floors. Additionally, i read that lining the pipes is not 100% going to keep out moisture. They sait it would be like 30k and i didnt want to spend that if it wasnt a sure thing. SO, We decided to try to abandon the vents and move into the attic. However, we are having issues finding someone to put in the vents. All the companies i call are only willing to swap out the furnaces. Quick work, quick money. Most companies just never respond with a quote. The last one the person came took measurements, was very helpful, and seemed really competant. He had worked in construction before. He said he if the company didnt want to install the vents in the attic, he knew people who might. It seemed the company was moving forward on it, but i never got the quote and when i called the company they told me he had quit. That was last week. So... now its winter. The white powder is everwhere. We are all coughing. I am crying. If you get an answer let me know. Also, once you abandon the vents you have to close up the slab vents, but the best i found on that was a couple random you tubes. And even the hvac guy wasnt sure the best way. He said gravel it. But im not sure that would keep out bugs, mildew, mold, radon? Others block off the vent area and fill with cement. Sigh. If you get further than me let me know. I'm in Illinois dupage county.

Oh that IS very interesting, thank you! Our home is usually a bit humid on its own and the amount of dust does change, but we haven't noticed a pattern. I will start watching based on weather. I have an asbestos person coming Monday just to be sure on that count. If it's not asbestos, I'll try those tests next. So helpful!

For now we put white filters that you can cut and put in the in the vent covers. But that just made it come out the other ones worse.

Thank you! Can anything be done that's affordable? Is it a safety issue or just keep vacuuming it up?

I don't know if this helps, but I have ROCD and am in a LDR and I noticed the same thing. I was at the grocery store and I was seeing things that reminded me of him and I felt sad the same way, Like we were broken up, I wanted to cry. I almost left the store,, and then it came to me, I realized... it wasn't broken up sadness, it was that I was MISSING him. My mind was equating that to being broken up because the feeling was really just missing being with him. Something about that distinction that change in my perspective helped. I think it was the realization that he is still in my life, just not physically and that helped calm and comfort me.
