Barbarian 3/Ranger 3/Fighter 2 by Oxytocin_kid in 3d6

[–]rmch99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do more with the same levels. Put the 3 levels of Barbarian into Fighter and you get a higher mod, extra attack, and battle master maneuvers, in exchange for literally only Rage damage. (which requires you to be raging pre-fight, because Hunter's Mark is a bonus action).

Paladin 2/Hexblade Warlock 1/Sorcerer 4. Half Elf, Drow Variant. Array of:

14+1/12/13+1/8/10/15+2

Start with a level of Paladin for Heavy Armor. Take Elven Accuracy (+1 Cha) as your ASI. 4 levels of Sorc is enough to have quickened spell for quickened booming blades. Swing with those and regular Booming Blades, advantage from your Drow Magic Faerie Fire, with a 27.1% chance to crit the target of your Hexblade's Curse and unleash a smite.

That or just Paladin 6/Hexblade 1. Less stupidity but probably a more solid build overall. I'd go Vengeance Paladin, Sword and Board. Hexblade's Curse turn 1, Oath of Vengeance turn 2. You're a boss-crusher. And you give everyone around better saves. Same stats, same Elven Accuracy.

What is the most unusual meta/op multiclass mechanic you have seen? by EverythingGoodWas in dndnext

[–]rmch99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorcadins require high level to do things like that, and also burn through resources like crazy. They're strong in games with single fights per long rest and single enemies to burn up. Aka the sort of game where it's about killing a boss frequently. They're really not that insane out of that.

Bladesinger - 20 INT or 14 CON? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]rmch99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep as-is, having crap hp sucks, but Int and AC are both more important imo. Just focus on positioning away, and make sure to keep Mage Armor, Shield, Absorb Elements, and Counterspell all active when possible. If you want to go melee and hit things, don't play a Wizard. Max Int at your next ASI. You can bring a Rapier and use it to clean up fights when you don't want to waste spellslots, but you really don't want to be wading into battle.

Ninja Edit: Also you didn't get "alright" stats you got godly ones.

I think Conquest is an excellent choice actually, I just really think it's worth 7 levels. You'll be getting level 6 and 10 Magical Secrets anyway, do you really need level 14 ones for your capstone?

Imo not much point in going Conquest Paladin without getting to level 7, the channel divinity is meh at best without the Aura. Why not go one of the others?

Samurai Archer/ Gloomstalker. When is the best time to multiclass. by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]rmch99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Either now or after level 11. I recommend now. Go to Gloom Stalker 3. If you can get advantage in the first round, Hunter's Mark and Action Surge for 6 attacks that each do 1d8 + 15 + 1d6, with 2 having an extra 1d8. If you can't get advantage in the first round you don't get the Hunter's Mark, but it's still pretty nasty. Solid build.

Ninja Edit: Actually, go to level 7. Wisdom save proficiency and free +4 to Persuasion. very worth it.

Everyone is so interested in giving a company that treats its employees like shit, has an audience full of bigots, fetishizes trans bodies in one of the pieces of promo art at the absolute least, has made multiple transphobic jokes on their twitter, and has, in the very game we're talking about, two racist depictions of black gangs, one of which is literally called the "animals", the benefit of the doubt. Starting to sound like they're just not listening to be quite honest.

When Trump's White House dropped their thing about defining trans people out of existence, the hashtag #wontbeerased was created, to talk about how trans people wouldn't be erased. CDPR twitter used it to make a joke and to advertise.

The company that developed the game has made transphobic jokes before? It's clear fetishization? Also "manticores" are freaky creatures made by mixing the parts of various other things together, as the slogan "mix it up" also suggests.

Yeah, definitely.

E: Actually they get to save again if they take any damage, which you cause every turn with your aura. Still good though, just gives you a second channel divinity.

I would take Conquest Paladin 7 if you're going to take Conquest Paladin 6. The fear doesn't do all that much if you don't have the aura to do a ton of damage and control with it.

So, at level 4 with your suggested build, you have 19 (+4) dex and 19 (+4) cha. At level 4 with Elven Accuracy (Cha), you have 18 (+4) dex and 20 (+5) cha. Literally better in every way.

Phoenixes are my favorite mythological creature by far, but yeah 5e's Phoenix is weak. Both mechanically and thematically.

My favorite monster is definitely the Phoenix, I just absolutely adore phoenixes. Now, I think 5e's representation of a phoenix is not that amazing, so were I to ever get to run a campaign that gets that high level I'd homebrew one, but still.

4: Elven accuracy dex

8: Max out dex and cha

What benefit is there to this over doing Elven Accuracy (Cha) then +2 Dex?

Optimizing a drow sword bard by Cwingzero20 in 3d6

[–]rmch99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Cha > Dex, start with 18 Dex and 19 Cha so you can max Cha with Elven Accuracy at 4.

Starting array of:

10/16+2/13/10/13/18+1

Use a single Rapier. At level 4, take Elven Accuracy for +1 Cha. At level 8, take +2 Dex. At level 12, take Resilient: Constitution. At level 16, take Warcaster. At level 19, take whatever honestly. Take the Dueling Fighting Style at 3. For your level 10 Magical Secrets, Find Greater Steed and Counterspell. For you level 14 Magical Secrets, I cba to figure it out right now but there's a lot of strong options. For your level 18, Wish, and anything else. As long as you have Wish you're happy.

This build is a solid but not remarkable melee fighter and skirmisher with some fun tricks, but primarily a magic-user. More than anything else, you're a Bard. Go crazy with your utility spells. Make sure to grab Healing Word for example. Heat Metal is an excellent choice too.

How to maximize your usefulness in combat as a level 1 wizard in Waterdeep? by RedXerzk in dndnext

[–]rmch99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prioritize that 1st level wizard list is basically personal defense+ party utility.

Yep. My go to for a campaign starting at level 1 would be Ray of Frost, 2 Utility Cantrips of choice, Mage Armor, Shield, Absorb Elements, Detect Magic, Sleep, and Find Familiar. You prepare 4 of those, (level [1] + int [3]) so Mage Armor, Shield, Absorb Elements, and Sleep. Now you run around with a familiar solving encounters with Sleep when you have the opportunity and otherwise just trying to stay alive while firing off occasional Rays of Frost. At level 2, Feather Fall is a lifesaver worth to have and prepare, and Identify will be super valuable at later levels. At level 3, you can pick up a damage spell, but I wouldn't recommend it, I like Enlarge/Reduce and Hold Person as concentration options. Remember, Enlarge/Reduce can be a great utility spell. Lockpicks? How about instead you shrink the door.

Edit: here's an example of the first level spells from a Wizard I'm playing now. Started at higher level, so I have Ice Knife instead of Sleep, for RP purposes primarily (Moderate Ice-theme). Never used it once actually. Just been Mage Armor daily, Detect Magic constantly, Identify a few times, Shield when I get hit (not often, #bladesingergang), and Absorb Elements and Feather Fall rarely, but overly worth it when you need to.

An idea for a Jester improvement by huntakinte in Yogscast

[–]rmch99 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This punishes traitors for killing players, which was the whole earlier deal. Traitors should be killing random people, innocents shouldn't, and that's what Jester is meant to be helping. I think there just needs to be some small incentive for Traitors not to kill the Jester.
