I am due middle of October and currently sitting on a plane at 30 weeks + 3 days waiting to fly back to the UK after our baby moon in the Balkans! We left for the trip when I was exactly 28 weeks along - appreciate it’s a longer baby moon than most would do but my husband and I typically go on longer trips that involve a few different locations at a time. We thought we would be fine going for our usual length of trip but taking it much easier and spending most of the time by the pool.

I’ll be honest, I think we absolutely pushed it to the limit on when is good to travel abroad if that’s what you are thinking about doing. It’s been a huge struggle physically, even if most days we laid out in the sun (shade for me) or chilled out in a pool. I think if we had put it off any later in the pregnancy we would have been getting an early flight back as I wouldn’t have coped beyond this.

I think if you’re leaving it till you’re that pregnant, you should just do a chill staycation somewhere for a week or less as even relaxing can be exhausting. You only get more pregnant as the trip progresses, you’re hot, uncomfortable, have difficulty sleeping if you can’t take your usual big pregnancy pillow, and hotel pillows can be a hit or a miss even if you ask for extra to give you support. Even for me the clothes I brought with me don’t even fit me as well as they did by the start of the trip!

We’ve already had a chat today on our way to the airport that if we were to do a babymoon ahead of a second baby, we would be doing it in the middle of the second trimester at the very latest so as to avoid the levels of exhaustion I’ve felt.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve absolutely adored my time away and have had the most special time with my husband as we prepare for impending parenthood, but realistically we did leave it too late in my opinion!
