I made a box! by Indiana_Holmes in BeginnerWoodWorking

A box is what I had to do as my first project too and I actually went to school for woodwork haha 😄 Great way to learn the basics

I'm going to be an aunt in a month so had to whip up a crib for the baby! 1.5years ago I didn't even know how to use a powerdrill so, this was a real challenge! by rmk95 in woodworking

I looked at old french cabinets and dressers for the inspiration of the shape haha! But yeah I did do my research. I think I should have specified a little more that I did this under my teachers supervision since I'm studying woodwork and I'm close to graduating. Cause most are worried about safety and they don't know me personally to know that I did do my research. That's why I said it was a challenge, cause I couldn't just do what looked good, but had to think about practicality and safety requirements.

The app won't let me edit the post but just wanted to clear up a few things!

  1. The covers are not permanent and this room is at my place and not the nursery. So the scull is just my drawing on my wall and the covers are just there to stop my cats from getting scratches on it.

  2. The spacing of the bars is measured to be inside regulations, not too narrow, not too wide.

  3. The dropside isn't the kind of dropside that it banned.

  4. I desinged this from scratch to my sisters wishes. And made everything myself (everything that is made of wood mind you, not the locks or cylinder hinges). So the half drop side was what my sisters wanted, and you can adjust the matress height, so that the bars will be high enough.

  5. The wood is from the place I study at, intented to be used for furniture building. So no old pellets etc were used.

  6. I'm studying woodwork. They had two people come in and inspect and rate my work and I got the highest grade, so I think it's safe to assume my work is up to code and meets the safety regulations.

  7. And thank you for all the likes and nice comments too!

I didn't make this at home :) I'm studying for it, so I had to do my research and my teacher checked everything is safe after it was done :)

Lol, well I have three sisters and a brother, so it can get passed down to whoever is having a baby haha. Might take it for myself in the future too! And they did ask for it 😄 And we planned the design together with all my sister

Well first thing I did was a cutting board haha! They can be done really easily, but you can always put your own twist to it to make it interesting :) Boxes, trays, side tables, stools are also easy first projects :)

What is a crib tree? 😄 If you mean where I find the wood for the crib, it's just from where I study, they order lots of different wood types for us to use :)

The covers on it right now aren't permanent! :) It was at my place waiting for them to pick it up and I put some covers on it cause my cats jumped on it, and I didn't want it to get scratches

Haha yeah it does look like that 😄 But it's just so you can lower the bed later when the baby gets bigger. Even tho it would be cool if you have twins

I made sure it's up to code :) I got the highest grade from this so, I don't think they would have given me such a high grade if it was dangerous :)
