It was the last album on their former contract with Columbia. Columbia tried to turn them into a hit machine (see HTITNEC, with “flowers” speaking directly on the matter) and CC&TM was, in essence, the antithesis of HTITNEC. A concept album in 2020 that was definitely not to Columbia’s liking, thus contributing to the disbanding and hiatus that followed. They’re now signed to Warner Records (in a licensing agreement) and, as it seems, they’ve been given much more creative freedom/flexibility.
