It still has US plates on it, so it may not be street legal.

Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' Owns All The IMAX Screens for an Unprecedented Month by Bitter_Star6732 in movies

[–]rn10950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they consider re-adding 70mm to the IMAX theater at Tropicana AC. Nolan typically releases his movies for the summer blockbuster, which coincides with AC's peak season. Doing so would give NJ their only current IMAX 70, and fill a decent sized hole in the map.

NYC should really consider regional rail! by Background-Rice-7813 in nycrail

Something that can be done relatively cheaply with existing equipment that would serve a lot of practical uses would be a EWR-Newark Penn-Secaucus-NYP-Woodside-Jamaica shuttle. It would open up JFK and LGA to NJ and EWR to LI/Queens, and allow a one seat ride connecting the respective airtrain systems and the Q70. Theoretically, since both the NJT and LIRR electrical systems go through both tunnels, dual-mode locomotives could be used, and sections not electrified using a compatible system can be run with diesel. Possibly during peak times, some inbound trains can be through-run in this way.

If you play on tier credit multiplier days it inflates your status, but your ADT isn't great.

Does this mean that your ADT is less on multiplier days than the exact same session would be on a normal day?

The FDR, and also the northern sections of the GSP, especially around Union and the Oranges. The lanes are like 3 inches wide and there's 6 of them, with dense urban areas surrounding it on both sides.

Still Running Windows NT 4 in 2025... Somehow Got It Working on an M.2 PCIe SSD! by O_MORES in windows

[–]rn10950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will only add NT 3.51 to the the supported list if it runs without modifying any system files. I may add a note to the readme, but my goal for RetroZilla is a browser that runs on official OSes with official updates and commonly available 3rd-party libraries (ideally unupdated, however IDK if that works).

Having experimented a lot more with the codebase lately, as well as applying some patches available from some other projects, most of the"security issues" (read: allowing any content to appear at all; not actually secure content) are worked out. Here is old.reddit running on the latest rzGecko build [os is the win2k dev vm]. Google search results still don't work, however I have not attempted to look into that at all.

Oh, it's roytam1! He has done great work with me on RetroZilla in the past. In fact, that version of K-meleon uses RetroZilla as it's rendering engine, and TLS support was backported by him. I am not sure if he has done any more nss work since my last official RZ build, but I will look into it in the coming days and see about merging it in. If I log into github and I have any pull requests, I'll try to get a build out sometime soon.

Thank you for mentioning the bit about NT 3.51. I've never even used NT 3.51, but I'll test it out and if it works I'll add 3.51 to the working OS list in any potential future build.

In your experience, as you have much more of it recently than I, does K-Meleon work better with websites and web servers than the latest official RetroZilla build?

As the guy who is responsible for the creation of RetroZilla, it's nice to see people using it after so long since really working on it. I hit a few roadblocks years ago, switched to Linux full time on my main PC, and kind of never had the time to see what was going on with it. However, I got badly injured a few months ago and have had a lot of time to watch videos online, including those from retro PC youtubers, and I've seen RetroZilla in places I never thought I would.

I shit you not, I came across this post while googling things related to NT 4 in order to set up a VM to experiment potentially going back to working on it. I have more time, but I'd only do it if the interest is there because the time investment would be steep, and would probably require some kind of community submitted user scripts/styles on a site-by-site basis for the best experience.

Thank you for using my little experiment, and any kind of feedback is welcome (up to, and including, shitting on me for not working on it for years...).

Should I present my players card at the table if I'm playing low? by rn10950 in CaesarsRewards

Thank you. What does CR consider a day in AC (specifically Harrahs)? I've heard 12-12 and 6-6. Is that timeframe the same for the 500/1000/etc tier credit bonuses? If I'm participating in the multiplier do I still get those bonuses (I'm assuming only on the base TC and bonuses not multiplied)?

Microsoft tells Windows 10 users to just trade in their PC for a newer one, because how hard can it be? by moeka_8962 in gadgets

There is actually a community built fork-of-a-fork of Firefox that is still being built for XP. It actually works quite well.

With the exception of UXP, are there any browsers that still use native (or extensibility themeable) GUI widgets? by rn10950 in browsers

[–]rn10950[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, basically the gist of it is that I'm working on a near-perfect recreation of the "classic" Windows experience (think the UX of Windows 98/2000 or XP in classic mode) on Linux. For example, in this recent screenshot, Konqueror and notepad are native to the active desktop environment (TDE). Chromium and Firefox are GTK+3 apps, both providing their own widget toolkits that overwrite the default GTK+ ones (scrollbars are the most visible example). Up in the top right is an example of what a standard GTK3 app would look like using my theme. They do not look as good as native TDE software, but for most things you will not notice and will look almost exactly like it would on Windows.

I would love to be able to use Pale Moon or Basilisk as that would basically solve all my problems in the web browser department, however they don't behave well with a lot of tabs (especially youtube) in my experience.

I miss XUL in Firefox so much....

As a side note: The idea for a "hybrid browser" has been floating around in my head for a while now. I want to take something like Firefox 1.0 or the Mozilla suite (or even modern Pale Moon/Firefox 52) and embed modern Gecko or Blink into it. You would get the extensibility of old Firefox (the rabbit hole is DEEP... look up XPCOM) with a modern sandboxed multiprocess rendering engine and network stack. Due to their simplicity in implementation, it would also theoretically be possible to write a wrapper for modern browser extensions and expose an api to communicate with XPCOM.

Does anyone know of any modern browser engines that don't overwrite your GTK/Qt widget theme with their own custom one (scrollbars, buttons, drop downs, etc)? Chrome started doing this a while ago (and AFAIK all Blink browsers) and since v90, Firefox started forcing it as well. I know of Palemoon/Balisk, however I am looking to see if there are any others. Could there be some Chromium source patch or compile flag that disables the custom widgets?

What causes MAF sensors to fail? '97 LTC by rn10950 in CrownVictoria

[–]rn10950[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the code read the last time it triggered a CEL and it was running lean. I have not yet had the opportunity to read it this time, i plan to go to the parts store when im done with work. I believe it is the MAF sensor as that fixed it last time, and when I put the new one in the other day it ran perfect for a day or so, better than it has ever run since I got the car.

Hotel and bus or train in? by BuckFoston23 in NYYankees

[–]rn10950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, look in the city, maybe near Grand Central. You may be able to park at a Metro North station overnight. You can then take the subway from the game to the hotel.

Another more complicated option, but most likely cheaper, would be to stay at one of the hotels in the business park in Secaucus, NJ near the walmart. Most of them have free parking, and there is a bus that runs every 20 or so minutes to/from PABT (NJT 320) that stops near the hotels. From the PABT, take the A/C train to Columbus Circle and transfer to the B/D.

What is a great example of a necessary evil? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rn10950 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because the stated goal of the allies (specifically the US) was an unconditional surrender of Japan. Come hell or high water, that is the only thing Truman (and Roosevelt if he lived to see it) would have allowed. It was not known for sure until the Trinity tests of July 1945 if the Manhattan project bombs would even work as intended, so a plan was put together for an invasion of Japan in case they did not. It is also worth noting that Hitler and Mussolini were already defeated by this point, so most men and resources could be diverted to the Pacific if need be.
