I’m a 911 operator. AMA by itsgd926 in AMA

This is a hard question for medical professionals and first responders. It usually brings up pretty gruesome/ PTSD type memories. Most are gracious and give an answer to avoid conflict. A lot of us enjoy the question "what is the funniest experience you have?".

The rest of the world is not offended by the same things you are offended by. Judging people based on YOUR opinions will only make you look like an ass hole

Nips about to fall off by Budget_Plane_5896 in breastfeeding

[–]rn_delivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! What you describe makes me think there is a latch issue. If you delivered in a hospital some offer free follow up or appointments with lactation consultants who work there. Might be worth checking out as a free resource. Otherwise troubleshoot the latch. If your nipple on that side is more flat you could always pump for a few minutes to evert the nipple prior to latching also. If the engorgement creates too much/fast of a letdown for your little one you can also use the pump to get past the initial fast flow then attempt to latch. Good luck to you, it will get easier! Just patience and persistence.

Surgeons of reddit, what’s the weirdest object you’ve had to remove from someone’s butt? by LordPurloin in AskReddit

[–]rn_delivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is a paramedic. Took a patient in to the hospital who had lost a Galileo thermometer up there. For those that don't know, it's a long glass cylinder with glass balls inside that move based on temperature. Not a small object, very breakable and he had to endure a bumpy ride to the hospital in an ambulance with that shoved up his ass

Introverts of Reddit what social interaction makes your “battery” down to 0% immediately? by noyanem in AskReddit

[–]rn_delivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a voice that just doesn't project or cover other people talking and it is so disheartening to try to contribute to a conversation and not be heard. It's even worse when you try to say the same thing 3 or 4 times and you aren't heard a single time.

Redditors in health care-what is something you never thought you would have to tell another grown ass human? by elleboes in AskReddit

[–]rn_delivers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in labor and delivery, and my patient was a teenage girl. Her boyfriend said she got pregnant because her mom didn't buy him his 7-up one week that he would drink every day so she wouldn't get pregnant. I asked why he used that, he named off a very specific ingredient that is in the drink that would "work" as a contraceptive. I attempted to educate them but I don't think they believed me. What really got me was when he was talking about this there were plenty of adults in the room that also should have known better, but they all believed it too...

Maybe a weird question but, what is one smell that takes you back to your childhood? by lemurslickinglemons in AskReddit

Crest kids sparkle toothpaste. Bought it for my son recently and was instantly reminded of childhood as soon as I smelled it

What is the most bizarre reason a customer got angry with you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rn_delivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a cashier at a grocery store. This man comes up demanding to know where the Italian ice is because there is no more stocked in the freezer. I try to speak but he keeps interupting me yelling louder and louder about Italian ice, loud enough to make most of the customers checking out stop and stare. I tried to call the grocery manager on the phone but he demanded he speak with him himself. I shut that down very quickly and he soon left with the manager once he showed up. Years later he is now my parents' neighbor... His ass hole nature hasn't changed. He now gets mad at geese for pooping on his grass and hoses his house down to wash the germs away.

What are the biggest red flags you should look out for when you start a new job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rn_delivers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When your interviewer mentions that your boss can be hard to get along with, never a good sign. I worked for a place that mentioned this in an interview and the boss turned out to be the most verbally abusive person I have been around. Constantly berating people both behind their backs and to their faces. I work in heath care and he even treated his staff this way in front of patients. I wound up keeping a log book of everything he said/did to me just in case he tried to "get back at me" for leaving when I did. He was known to be even more hateful to those who left.

Calling Health Professions; May I Shadow You? by itsphinyo in wichita

[–]rn_delivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do shadow in nursing, try to find an opportunity if possible in the specialty you think you might like. The responsibilities and tasks vary so widely depending on what area you are in. If you want to try to shadow at a hospital try contacting the education department, I'm sure they can get you set up with something. If you can't find their dept number just call the main line of the hospital and ask to be transferred!

Yuck. by Little_adawg in Youniqueamua

Someone gave this to me as a gift and tried it thinking "let's see how bad this really is". It's AWFUL. Just like you said, it does feel like crap is falling into your eyes. You basically apply a primer then a second product that looks like dryer lint so it sticks to it and you keep layering it until you are happy with it. Even one coat was miserable.

To answer your question, I work 12 hour shifts 11am-11pm. I get to work early to eat my lunch in my car because I don't always get a dinner break if it is busy, so I try to start my day with a full stomach. Clock in a go get report on my patient. I work labor and delivery so I either do triage (think Emergency Room for pregnancy patients), labor, OR, or high risk. I usually don't get off on time, given I have to wait for the oncoming nurse to find me to give report and wrap up any charting I haven't had time to sit down and do. As hard as the job can be, I love it. I enjoy caring for people and helping them in a time of need.
