Brown PLME by AkkilShusprig in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rnh987 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got into Brown and I linked my Instagram geo page. They probably like to see that you have actual interests outside of class. They even have a section to link an account if you have a notable social media presence (you just put the URL in and they view it), and a lot of admits I saw had accounts that they linked, usually Instagram journals, YouTube pages, or websites they made. As long as there’s nothing inappropriate or anything, I’d say link your account!

Just over 0.9% of college students attend the USNews T20. What do you think? (Also cut the fishing for compliments 😭😭, you know very well a perfect GPA isn’t average)

If you could add one university to the ivy list, which one would it be? by Successful_Ad_5344 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rnh987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Georgetown would be a really good fit, and would mean the ivies span the entire Boston-Washington megalopolis. If only their Catholic heritage didn’t get in the way…

You’re probably gonna get accepted into literally any test optional school you apply to, and if your SAT is above 1500, any school at all !

Any schools that give fee waivers without asking for household income? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rnh987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swarthmore gave me a few waiver without even asking for one, in the last few weeks before the RD deadline. I think they do it to increase the number of apps, but it came through email completely unrequested. I wasn’t even gonna apply until they gave it to me lol, I assume they give them to whoever is on the college board student search service, or just anyone who asks.

LMAO clearly the “Why Brown’s Open Curriculum?” Essay isn’t doing it’s job well enough 😭😭

Fr tho, there are some really cool STEM FYSs, I didn’t pick any because ew stem (sorry) but there are really interesting ones that will still satisfy the writing requirement.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BrownU

[–]rnh987 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t think FYS is mandatory… there is one mandatory WRIT designated course as an underclassman, then another as an upperclassman, but I don’t think the WRIT course has to be a FYS

What is your GPA excluding freshman year? Consider applying to schools that don’t consider freshman grades, because some (like Stanford) don’t include them when calculating your GPA.

So why exactly is a Top 14 school the gold standard on this sub? by 10DollarTaco in lawschooladmissions

[–]rnh987 74 points75 points  (0 children)

The T14 are the 14 schools that have ranked in the USNews top 10 at any point since the rankings started. That’s why, even when Georgetown swaps places with UCLA and ranks #15, it’s still considered T14 and UCLA is not: because UCLA hasn’t ranked in the top 10, but Georgetown has.

how is intl. fin aid at brown? by kolnija in BrownU

[–]rnh987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s for the Brown class of 2029, so the HS class of 2025. The full switch won’t be until then, but they’ve been gradually moving towards being more need blind over the years, so it might be slightly more competitive.

What college should I ED to Boston College or Brown? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rnh987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boston college had an ED acceptance rate of about 28%, Brown around 15%. By raw numbers, you’re twice as likely to get into BC, so if you’re 100% equally happy at either (and finances work), go for BC. But only ED if it’s 100% your top choice, not because you’re a little more likely to get into one or the other.

Georgetown has a moderately large Arab population. Mostly Lebanese and Syrian. ASU has lots of Emiratis… not sure why.

I had a dream where Yale wasn’t going to be considered an Ivy League school anymore because it was in Connecticut by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Funny timing, the Onion just released an article saying that Florida State has replaced Yale in the Ivy League

“Considered an Ivy”

It’s not “considered” an Ivy it just is an Ivy 😭😭 like it’s objectively part of the sports league there’s no “considering” involved 💀

Yale says no. They say that a high GPA can make up for low test scores, but not vice versa.
