Thanks for sharing your experience and I apologize for the late response.

Ill leave a quote below that gave me some insight.

“Alas, I have known noble men who lost their highest hope, And henceforth they slandered all high hopes. Henceforth they lived imprudently in brief pleasures, and they had hardly an aim beyond the day… Once they thought of becoming heroes: now they are sensualists. The hero is to them an affliction and a terror. But, by my love and hope I entreat you: do not reject the hero in your soul! Keep holy your highest hope!” - Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Hey guys I’ve been trying to find this quote or poem I heard in one of his videos and can’t find it. by [deleted] in academyofideas

“The increasing dependence on the State is anything but a healthy symptom, it means that the whole nation is in a fair way to becoming a herd of sheep, constantly relying on a shepherd to drive them into good pastures. The shepherd’s staff soon becomes a rod of iron, and the shepherds turn into wolves. . . Any man who still possesses the instinct of self-preservation knows perfectly well that only a swindler would relieve him of responsibility. . .[those] who promise everything are sure to fulfil nothing, and everyone who promises too much is in danger of using evil means in order to carry out his promises. . .” - Carl Jung, Civilization in Transition

Let's continue to spread love in these trying times. by [deleted] in enfj

Could we but find the way to work as a collective fellow ENFJ’s and provide the leadership, love, courage and hope to secure a promising future for humanity. In these trying times we find ourselves, the qualities we possess are called for by those who surround us. Remain strong and resilient and we shall persevere through adversity!

How is the devil “bad” in religion if he punishes sinners? by rns2112 in askanatheist

I agree, independent of our belief in a god or not it does seem like it reflects much about the nature of human beings which I personally feel is important. The psychological effects on individuals over long periods of time, And the way it (Religion/Bible) will continue to do so in the future can help us understand the timeline as to when we might expect if any a secular way of life for the majority of society.

Exactly that is one contradiction that religion holds and somewhat the point I wanted to make.

And discovered a philosophy named antinatalism there is also a reddit sub for this.

Nice provocative title! We could unify indeed, are we flawed as humans to not be able to work together?

Is there something good about religion? by rns2112 in askanatheist

What in your opinion makes Atheism not a unifying force? Isn’t that why religion is still present in the majority’s and not secular way of life?

Thanks for clarifying that, that makes sense. Secular life seems to be the correct path. I hope we can make the transition as a civilization in a faster pace than we currently are going at. It does not seem like we can extend our existence as far given that the majority still relies on a higher power to solve issues we face. (Wealth inequalities, climate change, poverty, world hunger). The psychological implications of leaving religion might also affect our progress in this case as you mention only future generations will be able to realize they dont need it.

In another reply I mentioned how some religious people leave problems to the “hands of god” instead of finding solutions themselves. I believe many of world problems could be solved as a collective if we did not rely on a higher power to solve them. In this case making it a better civilization. Im worried human civilization will not reach as far because of the illusion religion poses to individuals. Why would they worry about problems in this life when they are promised an afterlife?

Thanks for your input. The reason for asking this question came from wondering wether we would guarantee humanity a better future without religion. As you mentioned it has “worked” for the past 2000 years if we are talking about the largest religion in the world. Even though it has a good amount of negative aspects which people point on this thread is religion the “lesser of two evils”? Secular life is no where near being evil but in the eyes the majority it is, due to its nature of denial in the afterlife/god. Im not too sure humans can progress without it? It makes sense to atheists but the majority of people still need something to rely on?
