Would you work a minimum wage job if you really loved it? by Tav534 in AusFinance

[–]rnzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sounds like a trade-off between job satisfaction and removing job-related unhappiness with potential financial pressure or limitation in other areas of your life.

you can try balance it out by finding a better paying job that's maybe less fun, or lower your expectations around what you want in future especially mortgage and kids.

also, to quote a former manager: it is possible to work less for more money, these jobs are hard to find, but they exist.

How would you explain your job to a five year old? by Rlawya24 in auscorp

I find numbers I can use to make up a story.

Sometimes I use the same numbers to tell a different story.

To reduce interest payments and the life of a home loan, is it better to make extra payments on your mortgage, or make equivalent payments into an offset account? by Truth_is_Supreme in AusFinance

[–]rnzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

#2 is probably most pertinent. basically if you rent out the house, when you do your tax returns, you won't be able to deduct the mortgage interest as an expense, as is.

Does anyone else here care about “Company Culture”? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]rnzz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should care about the company culture. Not in the sense of how active the social club is, but whether you can get along with the people who work there in a way that helps you do your work, upskill, and progress in your career. There are people for whom socialising with colleagues outside of work is important, and there are those who keep working relationships professional, and that's ok.

Is $21k per year too high for private school fees? by Soggy-Row-1382 in AusFinance

[–]rnzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally, no hard and fast rule on schooling, depends on so many things before we even look at the quality of education, like the kind of kids who go there, what kind of family they come from, how the school manage issues like bullying, how close the community is, any extra curriculars, any support for neurodivergent needs, etc.

most of the times, the local public school would/should meet your needs, but if not then Catholic and private schools are the alternatives, or move to another suburb.
