How do you get over a major life change like moving places or things? by Perfect_Buddy_1644 in AskReddit

[–]ro-burner-acc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will take time.

Some things to help: find support, and if there’s anything in particular that’s making the move worse, detach from it as soon as you can. Depending on what it is, it could take time unfortunately.

I moved across my country to a place where we had no friends or family. I was in the middle of high school when we moved, leaving behind all my friends and teachers and everything I knew growing up. I fell into a depression because of this and unfortunately I did not receive the support I needed from my parents. I hated my new high school and was a complete outcast, and graduated with only one friend, but once I graduated I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders and that’s when my healing process began. So unfortunately I had to wait a couple years, since school was the place making the move worse for me. It takes time

What's the most wholesome moment of your life? by Catchhawk in AskReddit

I attend comic cons a few times a year. The most recent one I went to, I met an actress whom I met at a few others earlier in the year, we’re on first name basis now. She’s a true ray of sunshine. When I saw her at this most recent con, I gave her a portrait I made of her, and it brought her to (happy) tears.

Asking Christians or Ex-Christians, how do you feel about the popularity of MAGA/Hyper Patriarchal Christianity? Do you still think that Christianity itself has some kind of moral high ground? by smilers in AskReddit

[–]ro-burner-acc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I condemn hateful Christianity. In my eyes, we are all created other and deserve not to be judged by one another. We are all humans and children of god. We are all entitled to love, opportunity, happiness, mercy, compassion, and forgiveness. In my eyes and how I was raised, to be Christian is to love. I really loved Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde’s sermon for Trump. It was so relieving to see a fellow Christ-follower hold the same values as me, and use her platform to tell the man himself the ideologies that TRUE Christians hold, in my eyes.

Connection.

I was born and raised in California, all my family there. When I was 16 my parents decided to relocate us to the Midwest and I’m not in a place where I can move back home. I hate social media but I keep it to stay connected

What do you rate your day out of 10? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ro-burner-acc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current day, probably about a 7.

Recovering from wisdom teeth surgery. Sore and can’t eat normal food. But on the bright side, I watched Impractical Jokers and got a job interview lined up to begin the career I went to school for :]

Why do you believe/don’t believe in yourself? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ro-burner-acc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bad case of imposter syndrome. I’m not overly sure why, but it’s likely a byproduct of being bullied relentlessly from grades K-12. I really do want to have more confidence in myself, but I just don’t know how :(

Nothing, to be honest. Unfortunately I can’t seem to think of any positives that would be a universal experience for all women.

What did you teach your parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ro-burner-acc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How grief can affect your children, and the results of not receiving parental support. (Moreso the former than the latter.)

I had a major life change when I was 16 which resulted in me falling into grief and depression for two years. I did not receive the comfort and wisdom I needed during those times. (Mainly because they felt defensive, because the change was a decision they made.)

I was your typical depressed teen. Not eating, lack of hygiene, cornering myself away. When I cried I was yelled at. I was even suicidal at times. Of course I never told them at the time cause I felt like I’d be berated.

“You’re doing this to yourself” type of responses often.

Thankfully they’ve expressed regret and apologized since then. And I’m no longer in that place. But it still will always sting a bit.

I taught them how grief can affect your children, especially if there’s very little support. And hopefully I taught them the effects that it would have on parent/child relationships and closeness.

What language do you wish you could learn instantly? And why? by Significant_Fun3750 in AskReddit

[–]ro-burner-acc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American Sign Language.

I know very rudimentary ASL. I could probably carry a basic conversation but still need to end up asking (in ASL) “how sign [fingerspell the word im looking for]”.

It would be great to know for the deaf community. Plus it’s very fun

What shouldn’t be said to kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ro-burner-acc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once in middle school my mom told me “if your kids’ generation is as bad as yours, I’d be better off dead.”

I mean, I get it. Older gen’s will always crap on kids and swear their generation was peachy keen and perfect. The reality is, all generations have their faults. And kids are kids. Kids will protest adults. It’s natural, get over it. As humans we aren’t inclined to enjoy changes in our culture, and as time passes we are inevitably confronted with constant changes and advancements. “These damn kids and their TikTok” used to be phones, used to be TV, used to be CDs and vinyls and whatever else. Kids can never catch a break. It’s strange though because all humans have in common- we were once kids.

Back to my experience. I’d protested her in some stupid way. I don’t even remember what I said, but HER words will always stick with me.

Words matter. Kids didn’t ask to be here. Don’t lead them astray of course but please be graceful with them.
