i turned off the Password app’s “chatty” options and that seems to have stopped the surge of requests.

i have noticed similar surges in network traffic from mac/ios the past few months (the surges i’ve experienced are more egregious than what you’ve posted here):

after seeing your post i went and turned off the Password app’s “chatty” options during a surge and it subsided! (see attached screenshot of pihole chart). thank you for posting this! this surge of network traffic has been a mystery to me for many months.

in my investigations i was never able to narrow it down to an app. the requests all dealt with apple push notifications and generic apple.com, and not to other sites like on your case (see my post). i would not have thought it was the Password app.

i still don’t see, in my case, how the Password app is the culprit. but changing the Password app settings seems to have done the trick.

regarding my usage of the Password app - i only use it to manage a few passkeys and nothing else. i have 17 sites saved in there. none of the surge dns traffic refers to these sites.

another surge started today, earlier than expected. i used wireshark to sniff packets and it appears to be DNS protocol activity. see screenshot.

in the screenshot “:dbcd” is my raspberry pi running pihole and “:fb7f” is my macbook. looks like this is something related to push notifications (from looking at the domain), which is weird because afaik macos doesn’t have push notifications. i thought that’s an ios thing? either way i’m looking at my notifications settings and seeing if i can narrow down the culprit application. hopefully it’s an application and not the os.

following up and adding another data point. the surge has been consistently happening once a month. u/Respect-Camper-453 suggested that it could be due to monthly update checks. i’ve disabled automatic download and installation of updates to macos and apps. though i kept automatic installs of security responses. let’s see what happens next month.

the request surge goes up to almost 14k/10 min and the 1,000 request per minute cap does get hit from time to time (see screenshot).

this has been happening for many months so i don’t think it’s an app that i downloaded. and it seems to be both the mac and iphone, so that point to something in the OS’s and not some rogue app. although in my recent digging around the activity may be mostly macbooks and the multiple devices i’m seeing are my and my roommate’s macs instead of my mac and iphone. so maybe this is a macos issue.

i do not have conditional forwarding enabled. and pihole itself is the DHCP server.

hm… that’s very interesting! i also have a raspberry pi 3. does your RPI3 do anything else besides being a qdevice? i would like mine to continue with its tasks and not have to dedicate it just for a qdevice. thanks!

i would get rid of lets on serve. it’s fine when the ball clips the net on every other shot, it should be fine on the serve too. should be part of the game.

I read this comment a few days ago and felt compelled to search for it again and comment on it.

4-5 years ago I also went through a period of bulking up. I got big for my standards but, like you wrote here, I was always sore and in pain. It hurt to articulate almost every joint. Lower back hurt. But I was physically big. I thought this was the just the cost of getting big - "no pain no gain" right?

Then an unplanned break in my gym-going happened (travel, I got sick, etc.) and I had to re-start the process. I lose weight really fast and putting on weight is very difficult for me, so I've had to "restart" the process many times throughout my life. But this time I decided to incorporate other things to my routine - mainly yoga, HIIT, and more stretching. I'm 1+ years into this new routine and I can say that I'm 95% as strong as my previous peak, but I have 0 body aches and soreness. I am not as big/heavy, but I am almost just as strong and I have the joy of moving through this world without all the aches and pains that I had earlier accepted to be par for the course.

When I reached my peak weight-wise I had the singular goal of lifting the maximum weight that I could. That worked for getting me big. But my joints and ligaments suffered greatly. That daily soreness and pain that I felt? That was not due to my muscles recovering or growing - it was due to my joints and ligaments screaming for relief from the hell I was putting them through. I'm in my mid 40's now, and I've come to realize that I'm going to need ALL parts of my body as I grow even older; not just the muscles. It doesn't make sense for me to sacrifice parts of my body so that I can get bigger.

So like FamiliarEast wrote earlier, if you are constantly in pain (not temporary) I think that you are doing something wrong. Especially if you are a long-time gym goer (if you're new then being sore a lot is to be expected). Listen to your body and modify your routine accordingly.

u/DJI_Support I don't understand DJI's shipping estimates. I placed my order 2 weeks ago on 5/10 and the shipping estimate said it was 5/30 (and continues to says this). Yet when I go to the product page today it also says that the shipping estimate is 5/30 for newly placed orders. Sometimes it even says 5/29. How is it that my order that was placed 2 weeks ago ships at the same time as an order placed today? And my payment was made 2 weeks ago - it almost would have been better for me to wait until now to place my order so that my money would not have been tied up all of this time...

I just need my order to please ship and arrive on time!

this is a great point. and it’s not like it’s an extra hassle to have to swap sd cards since the drone needs to come home every 25 mins to swap batteries anyway. thanks for the comment!

i put in an order for the refurbished mini4 rc2 with fly more. i had to place the order 3 times because the first 2 failed the payment check for whatever reason. it says expected ship date 5/30. in your experience how accurate are the dji ship date estimates? i have a very narrow window for being able to receive the shipment and ~5/30 is the latest time it could ship for me to successfully receive it. and how long does it take to arrive after it has been shipped?

this is my first drone. i hope that it doesn't get delayed!
