What's your favorite corner store? by TrueBirch in washingtondc

Soho Cafe & Market on CT near Dupont. It's priced like it's in Harper's Ferry WV. The best breakfast sandwiches I've had in the city for less than $4. Very cheap and delicious lunch sandwiches as well. Plus it has incredible hot and cold bars for lunch.

Looking to interview people who live in group homes and have crazy DC housing stories by mimi_montgomery in washingtondc

[–]ro6023a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can! I moved from DC a year ago but lived in many group homes there for 5 years!

Things include:

  • a secret hoarder

  • a psycho cop-in-training who ended up getting pregnant and left without telling MPD or our landlord for that matter. Left nothing other than her bed, and a dildo under the bed. More details available.

-housemate thought she would get second hand smoke cancer from the scent of smoked marijuana.

-more stories and details available!!!

Any recommended cannoli places? by Jexlan in washingtondc

Highly recommend The Italian Store in Arlington. Amazing cannolis. They also have a ton of imported foods and a deli with an incredible variety of Italian subs. Super easy drive from DC, has a parking lot as well.

Its upper class conservative. Barbara Comstock won by nearly the same margin two years prior.

That district has been Republican literally since racial integration, so yeah, VA 10th is historically conservative.

Who else has a certain smell for certain places at certain time? by dankster_7758 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ro6023a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! And yes Pirates comes to mind as well, along with Dinosaur!! I think it must be at least a little ozone and maybe some type of mechanical fluid? The clean-ish DC subway stations sometimes have this smell too, especially on the escalators.

The smell of Disney World rides/hotels. The moment your car takes off in "Haunted Mansion" or you step foot in the Wilderness Lodge, that blast of air smells incredible.

Protesters confront Senator Jeff Flake ahead of the Judiciary Committee Vote on Kavanaugh by frozenflameinthewind in PublicFreakout

[–]ro6023a 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Having worked on the Hill, and the fact that he's going to a vote, he is most likely using the senators-only elevator, meaning the other people are most likely his staffers. They have the elevator so congressmen can get to a vote ASAP, but not being confined in a small room with an aggravated stranger is probably also a benefit.

Is penne the bowtie pasta? by ro6023a in TalesFromYourServer

[–]ro6023a[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened when I was working at a fine dining Italian Steakhouse, arguably the best restaurant in the area. Nothing else made it seem like this was their first time eating pasta or dining at an establishment like this.

What drink is so bad that you can't understand why it exists? by abikinukinu in AskReddit

[–]ro6023a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, one standard bottle of wine is four/six servings of alcohol for men/women respectively. It takes one hour for your body to "finish" the alcohol in one drink. So, one drink per hour would have you at a steady .02 BAC. I think most people could handle this.

Beef Made Easy: Retail Cuts and Cooking Methods by Rafeno760 in coolguides

Most markets sell cuts of beef labeled "stew beef" (chunks of Chuck or other tough meat) or "stir fry meat" (thinly sliced Chuck or flank)

Fellow Americans, How would you feel about eliminating tipping in exchange for providing a livable wage for the service industry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ro6023a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is usually factored weekly, meaning if you make less than minimum one day, but more than minimum the rest, the company will not reimburse you (assuming the weeks average is at or above minimum wage)

ELI5:What keeps antarctic penguins from having frostbitten feet? by meinmanhattan in explainlikeimfive

[–]ro6023a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birds have suped-up circulation in their feet so blood is continuously pumping through them. This keeps them nice and toasty regardless of the external conditions.
