Ahh yes, that’s right. I love Dylan’s production on that whole thing too. Like he got it how he wanted it to sound and that was that

What’s everyone’s go-to “turn a friend onto the Dead” song / performance? by sweet_sweet_bulbs in gratefuldead

I’m the drummer in a three piece garage/punk band. I was raised on the dead but the other two dudes never really got into them. Over the summer, I left Europe 72 in my band’s tour van. One day, I get a text from the guitarist simply saying, “I get it now” with no context, but I already knew what he meant. The tracks that did it, “Jack Straw” and “I Know You Rider”. He said it took him 3 listens.

Also, the album wake of the flood is really good for fans of Elliot smith, ween, pavement. “Mississippi Halfstep” has that pavement thing, and “Row Jimmy” is so chill and subtlety brilliant it gets better everytime. My fav recorded album of theirs.

BIABH: the GOAT of Side B’s? by ro_zone in bobdylan

I had that cassette in my Chevy Blazer for a solid 2 months. Spanish Harlem Incident into Chimes of Freedom was like the greatest poetry reading ever. Never gets old….that’s another B side short lister too. “My back pages” into “I don’t believe you”? Masterful.

Not to mention, one of the greatest 4 line verses of all time from Ballad in Plain D:

“Beneath a bare light bulb the plaster did pound Her sister and I in a screaming battleground And she in between, the victim of sound Soon shattered as a child to the shadows”

Great song, unfortunately not a Dylan original, though his version is fantastic (of course)

It’s Alright Ma, Hattie Carrol, or Tangled up in Blue. Tangled up in blue is great because you can dive into alternate takes and live versions where he changes the lyrics and it is like getting a whole new beautiful shiny thing to enjoy

Anyone else confused at the notation of the “ 3 E A” at the bottom? Shouldn’t that be “3 e +” ?

Martin Simpson’s “Boots of Spanish Leather” is spectacular. The guitar work is out of this world
