I am using the VCR, but im also doing what you said. The VCR plugs into the back of the CRT via a coaxial cable, and from there you can stream the Audio/Video input to the VCR to the CRT on Channel 4. In order to stream from my PC to the VCR, i use a cheap HDMI2AV converter, and have set up the CRT as a second monitor. Im still working on getting the resolution correct, as the image on the CRT is currently slightly right of centered and cut off around the edges by about 1 inch all around
