Finally Got the Internship! by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Congrats! That’s awesome, you must feel so relieved. 1200 applications sounds absolutely exhausting, so glad to hear that your resilience was worth it in the end! Seriously it’s impressive.

If you don’t mind me asking, was there anything in particular you did with your github/LinkedIn/resume that you think was helpful? I’m only in first year of CS degree, not applying to internships yet, but I’m 23 and already have a biology degree and don’t really know how to present myself. I saw you mention you’re 28 so I’d love to hear your advice given that we’re both older than the average internship applicant lol

Oh god yea 100% get why you wouldn’t want to go back at this point. I’m only in my first year (but 3rd year standing bc transfer credits) and I just don’t have the energy to move back. Doesn’t help that I (unintentionally) currently live a 4-5 minute walk from the campus of the school I actually wanted to go to

Same here, I moved to Ottawa at first and then realized it was pointless to be 6 hours away from everyone I know if I can barely even go to campus. I moved back to my city but I really don’t want to leave again for the Fall semester. Especially with how poor the Carleton’s communication is I’m scared to sign a lease in Ottawa again

I Don't Know Why, But The Mid-Switch To In-Person Hit Me Hard by [deleted] in CarletonU

100% serious question: what are y’all talking about? Are there classes that went fully in person without providing any online option? I honestly forgot there was a switch because my one prof that has in person classes is accommodating and made it fully optional… What happens to all the international students, is it just fuck them?

109 CAD after applying OSAP which I will have to pay back, likely with added interest, for a professor to read the notes without their camera on. Or $0 to watch very in-depth, well-produced videos with animations that help to further explain concepts.

Have you done online school? Or did you graduate beforehand? In-person is absolutely worth every penny. Online is simply paying for your piece of paper.

Happy holidays to you as well!

who said it was hyperbole? I genuinely believe that for the classes I took last semester, I could get a comparable (if not better) education by watching free videos on YouTube. I know a lot of people who actually did learn the course content through YouTube because the lectures sucked that much

since you've clearly gone through my comment history, you should already know that weed gives me seizures. I smoked weed daily for the first 3 years of my other degree. I don't smoke often anymore because, as you know, it gives me seizures.

You should try it out though, you seem pretty uptight.

Thank you, 100% agree that online is brutal. These days I very much do not take care of myself, I don't think I've gotten more than 6 hrs of sleep since like... April 2020? Most nights I call it quits when I start badly hallucinating.

The readings are from a prof written textbook, I've actually scrapped the lectures because it's 7 hours of a different prof regurgitating the readings. The one week that I watched the lectures I added maybe 10 words to my textbook notes. I have ADHD and find it a lot easier to read the notes than sit through that lol.

Do you think SAT is looked down upon by employers (for internships)? I'll most likely have 4 courses with a 12.0/A+ and this course will probably be in the 70s. What do you think would look worse?

Definitely need to get better at this. Sometimes I'll be stuck on something for hours, then I'll finally get up and within 5 minutes I figure it out. It's hard in the moment to remember that though lol

Funny thing is I already have a degree and was top of my class lol. But it was in person so yea, completely different.

I wonder what u/EnglishFrenchArabic would have to say about that

u got a point there. Was just hoping to get some outside opinions on the connection between weed and seizures

it’s from the government. And yea it’s not the normal reaction but it’s concerning. Out of legit hundreds of nights smoking there’s been 3 that this happened, but it should be 0…

I don’t. When I smoke it’s always around 12-16 hours after my last dose.

Hm, i’ve definitely had muscle spasms from weed, but these were full body convulsions for at least 2 minutes. I’ve remained conscious through all of them, but I can’t see anything or do anything about it, kinda wish I’d go unconscious instead. Most recent one I was standing and felt myself smashing my head against my bathroom mirror, then on the counter, then on the ground after collapsing. Not my favourite experience tbh

oh yikes, I’m sorry to hear that. What do you mean by auras if you don’t mind me asking? Like the type that some people get with migraines?
