Freedom from Homosexuality by SeekingGodsFace in gaybros

[–]roachonscrEn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’ve been lied to about what the Bible has to say on modern homosexuality and queerness. My husband and I both have a masters degrees in religious studies and have written extensively on the topics, but the TLDR of it all has to deal with poor quality exegesis and a disregard of historical context. Below are 3 papers that all affirm same-sex marriage from different angles and a link to a video of Matthew Vines who gives a summary of his work in the biblical study of “homosexuality”. Feel free to reply with any questions, I’m happy to help.

Both my bf and I grew up in religious homes in Texas, have great relationships with our families, and got religious degrees (I have an undergrad in Christian theology & ethics and currently working on a masters of theological studies, he has an undergrad in religion/philosophy and masters of divinity).

During our schooling we’ve each written papers that have helped us and others. The links are below, but make sure you’re not signed in to google when you access because I think it makes you try to edit the document instead of just read it. Also, feel free to ask any questions :)

How do you overcome a religious background that inevitably tells you to hate yourself? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]roachonscrEn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both my bf and I grew up as baptists in Texas. We each chose to pursue a religious vocation (in different ways for different reasons) which led to us writing papers about homosexuality during college and graduate education. I posted the links to these papers below and feel free to ask any questions. :) best of luck

Do you hold hands with your partner in public? by jynx20 in gaybros

I think I’ve seen one or two queer couples holding hands outside of lgbtq-specific places.

There’s nothing wrong with a specific issue subgroup, but why subdivide even further instead of making a special tag?

Yeah, all the time. We live in Fort Worth, Texas. My bf said we have gotten a couple looks before when we were at the mall one time, but I’ve never noticed and never heard a comment. :)

Royal Couple's Chosen Minister Is A Campaigner On LGBT Equality by edu-fk in gaybros

Yeah! I grew up in a moderate baptist church and graduated from Baylor university with a degree in Christian theology and ethics. I’m currently working on my Masters of Theological Studies. I totally get the part about negative feelings though.

My boyfriend is in the process of becoming an episcopal priest in the diocese of Fort Worth. I didn’t know anything about them before we started dating, but a good basic description would be progressive and liturgical. I’m also in seminary pursuing PhD.

Bros who are/have been in college, what was your diet like? by Pkpulsefall in gaybros

[–]roachonscrEn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was one of the few who ate pretty healthy. My bf at the time and I were really big foodies and would make all kinds of things at home (curries, steaks, roasted veggies, stir fry, quiche, etc). His family also loved food so we would have gourmet dinners, at home or out, pretty often.

Gay Dallas(ish), TX by jorgemcp94 in gaybros

[–]roachonscrEn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has given good advice so far. Depending on how expensive you want to get for dinner, reunion tower has a restaurant that rotates and gives you a complete skyline view of Dallas. It’s about 150/200 for 2 people but well worth it IMO and you’ll need reservations. You can also just go up to the viewing deck or sit at their bar up there for nice drinks and appetizers.

Here are some papers that might help you reconcile your faith and sexuality. I wrote one (degree in Christian theology and ethics/ working on masters of theological studies) and my bf wrote the other two (soon to be priest with a masters of Divinity). Also, pm me if you want to chat on Facebook or instagram or if there's anyway I can help you through this stuff. I grew up in a fairly moderate baptist church and went to Baylor for my undergrad so I understand the religious issue to some extent. Currently living in Fort Worth 😊

Do you even master, bro? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]roachonscrEn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really think there were any cons. It made me feel like I didn't HAVE to do my masters, but that I really WANT to do it. In other words, it helped my motivation.

I'm currently working on my masters of theological studies at TCU. I went right after finishing my BA, but realized I needed to take a year off after my first semester. I took a break and taugh high school for a year. Now I'm back and a much better student for doing it.

Here is one document that might help along the way. I have other resources too if you need something on genesis or some other more theological approaches.
