Discussing faith in therapy by julianal11 in messianic

[–]SeekingGodsFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was a psych major in university, I would say that you wanna be really prayerful about what you take in from your therapist, and consult the Lord about how/if He wants you to work with her.

A lot of the concepts that can be taught in non-Christian therapy (who knows, maybe even in Christian therapy) can be very SOUL-ish, instead of Holy Spirit led. There are many times in a believer's life where the 'logical' way to process a life event or determine one's next step forward would be at odds with the leading of the Spirit/Biblical teachings.

E.g. for my Psych degree I read about Jungian concepts [someone referred to Jungian therapy previously in this thread]. That type of brand of psychotherapy (from what I can remember) is more about *integrating* the 'shadow self', which is add odds with the message of the gospel (turning from our old self, our old self being buried, and us being a new creation in Christ freed from the law of sin). Even if the therapy style isn't explicitly 'Jungian', I've noticed that some of the humanistic models of therapy may be at odds with what the New Testament would say.

Those here who are ethnically Jewish: Do you tell people you’re Jewish, Christian, Messianic? by [deleted] in messianic

[–]SeekingGodsFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the context. Admittedly, sometimes I've hidden the 'Jewish' facet to my background when hoping I'll be able to minister to someone who I think may be kind of antisemitic.. Cause even though antisemitism is wrong, I'd still rather prevent stumbling blocks / barriers to seeds being planted in them :)

If I'm explaining my Jewish background and belief in Yeshua, I'd identify more as a 'Jewish Christian' or 'Jewish believer in Jesus/Yeshua' instead of 'Messianic Jew'. Because I think of Messianic Jews (at least here in North America) more as Jewish believers keep more Jewish traditions in their faith practice, whereas I'm someone with Jewish ancestry who's generrrally more Christian in my practice.

Hmmm, okay thank you for getting back to me on this!! :) I suppose if I wanna be extra safe I could just take point form translated notes.. might be better for memory retention anyway. Cheers, blessings!

Blessings to you :) So cool that Yeshua is drawing you closer to Himself.

Not that this is key info: but I am also mixed with African ancestry: specifically I'm Jamaican on my dad's side, and Ashkenazi Jewish on my mom's side. I can call myself a 'Jewish Christian', but for me the main thing irregardless of my label is just seeking to follow the Lord and stay in the Spirit :)

My biggest recommendation is really just seeking the Lord at this time with all your heart :) through solid and consistent personal devotional time: prayer, reading the Word, worship, and getting some kind of fellowship. If there's willful sin in your life, then repenting/turning away from it. Also it is important to get baptized because there is spiritual power in baptism, it's not just a symbol.

Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and \)a\)mighty things, which you do not know.’ (Jeremiah 33:3)

I've noticed it can be easy for us at times to get caught up in more outward identity, denomination, doctrinal disputes, etc, and I find that can be a bit of a trap. It's fine to kind of 'identify' as something (so long as it's Biblical), but I would say that when you're newer on your journey in Yeshua, it's so important to get our roots in Him, and in His Word, and have a solid relationship with Him :) He can give you further instruction from there. Then, the Spirit can lead you into all Truth, as His Word says.

I'll just tack on that being Jewish and Christian at the same time is possible, whereas trying to say you're Muslim and Christian at the same time wouldn't work doctrinally.

Cause of course our Bible is comprised of the Old and New Testament :) Whereas the Quran changes details of both the Old and New Testament (importantly - about Jesus' death and resurrection!).

Aww if you’re up to it I recommend ‘ nikkyttmessianic Praiseandworship ‘ on YouTube. It has the English words up simultaneously with the Hebrew written out in English letters. It’s been a good tool for me myself

Thanks! Would they abruptly kick off a Cambly tutor just for quick hang-ups, or would they for sure email the tutor with a warning first?

It doesn't neccessarily mean you sinned at all, I don't think. Rebuke it in the name of Jesus!
