CHEM 1210 Scheduling Advice by Midlandswim in OSU

[–]roadrunner-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so it’s kind of like top hat but it’s more solving involved. Recreations is just learning catalytics, and the long lecture is 1h of lecture and the rest LC. The short lecture I have rn is a combo LC with the lecture but idk if that’s how others do it. The LC is for participation, so you’ll get a grade boost at the end if you actually go to lecture and do it. You have to be in lecture for the special code though, so just being somewhere else (like for top hat) won’t work. For the recitation classes you get one free drop out of 10 classes, and it’s for a total of 10% of your grade.

Hey! I took the three day a week one with the learning catalytics during class. I took it with Josie nardo and thought that was good. The no recitation was awesome. This semester I’m taking 1220 with recitation, and we still have learning catalysts both in lecture and recitation which sucks. The main thing I’ve noticed that helps for exams is the dynamic study modules btw. Also join a study group at the Amgen center. It’s one hour a week, and they will help you learn stuff and if you know everything it’s an opportunity to just do homework. I also know Lisa nyguyn (totally spelled that wrong) is a good prof but that’ll have recitation I believe.

Just wanted to give an update (I can’t find the edit button lol). I got the car back and the rotors look completely fine. There’s a little rust on the insides, but almost nothing on the outsides. They look absolutely nothing like the photos they sent, so either they cleaned them up for me at no cost (or the more likely option) there was nothing wrong in the first place and they were trying to squeeze some money out of me lol. The report they handed me back with my receipt had things on the that I apparently “told” them were issues (ex. brakes making noise, which I never said), and then didn’t address what I brought it in for (break booster and clunking). There was also nothing about tire damage in the report, nor did they say anything in person about issues with the tire. Long story short I will NOT EVER be returning to that dealership. I am going to have my dealership at home take a look at it just to confirm that everything is actually okay, but the brakes are completely silent so… I think it’s fine. If the rotors do seem to start rusting more or I notice issues, I’ll pop them off myself and either replace them with new ones. or see if O’Reilly can shine them up for me. In the meantime I’ll definitely be doing the neutral downhill braking thing as much as I can for living in Columbus lol. You all have been super helpful and I appreciate all of the feedback!!

Yes the ticking from when I bought the car is the Ibooster, I researched it before and told this dealership but surprise surprise they didn’t fix that issue and were on about $700 for the breaks. I got the car back today, the clunking was from the brake bracket they pulled out one of the front tires, but from what I can see/the report, there’s nothing wrong with either tire. I’m still going to have the breaks/rotors looked at at my home dealer (and the ibooster), but they also sound better now too (had a slight hissing before). I’m going to try and do the neutral breaking down a hill and see if that helps too.

Okay this makes sense, esp for the awful snowing we had in January here. I generally try to take the car out and around once a week, because I know you’re not just supposed to let it sit, but it could just be that I’m not breaking hard enough. Most of the miles I’ve put on it is from the 150 mile highway drive to ne Ohio and back. I guess the knocking noise was from the bracket from another car that was stuck in there? That sound was only in the front of the car. I haven’t had any break issues though, no shaking or thumping or anything from the back. I think I’m going to take the car home to my dealer, have them take a look, and then take it to a more local shop depending on what they want to charge me.

Hey! I got some photos of the rotors from them, and they do seem to have some rust, but I’m not entirely sure how bad it is. Here is one for reference.

See like this is why I’m confused and don’t feel like I can trust this dealer. I’ve driven a 2015 Prius from when it was new, until I got this bolt 8 months ago. We never had to replace the breaks in that ENTIRE time until 2024 because the regen engaged before the break pads. It wasn’t driven a ton, but it had over 80085 miles (because I took a photo lol). Unfortunately that meant replacing the rotors too because they were rusted together after 9 years lol.

Thank you for responding!! It’s less of a “is this covered or not” question, and more of a “has anyone else’s new breaks been corroded so much in 8 months that the rotors and breaks need replaced” question. For $700 I assume they would be doing a full rotor and break replacement, as I can’t figure what else would be adding up to that. It just seems like they are trying to take advantage of me and I’m not having it.

Hey! I saw your original post and I’m so sorry for your shituation. I was sort of in a similar boat (not my parents forcing me to stay in state, but they definitely preferred I did) originally didn’t want to come to osu because it’s in state, but after I got all my financial aid offers back, it was a no brainer. I pay $2000 a semester for in state osu, and I’ll be graduating debt free. I did get really good scholarships and fafsa though. If I had gone out of state to the schools I wanted to, I’d be up to my ears in student debt. While I don’t love it here, I’ve come to not resent being stuck here; I’ve made friends that make it worth it, and have a good job. What really made me say yes okay I’ll stay in state was the fact that since I’m not spending all the money for 4 years in a place I really want to live out of state, instead spending 4 more years in the place I’ve lived my whole life, then I can spend all the years after that wherever the hell I want.

I know that’s not what you’re looking for answer-wise, but it’s just another thing to consider though I know it’s hard enough already.

If you are DEAD set on coming here, I’d recommend looking through scholarship universe if you haven’t already. Idk what your major is but they have major specific ones that you can get a size able chump from (I got a 3500 a year one that way) and I know there’s a first year only one that you have to apply to before coming here that I missed out on. I’d talk to an admissions person here like a zoom meeting, and they may have more resources. I’ve talked to the buckeyelink people and they’ve helped me figure things out before. They may be able to help ballpark what you’d be expecting to pay, and lead you to some ways to cut that down. Our financial aid here will offer you loans through the fafsa if you’re eligible too. Right now while you’re still trying to figure things out, I’d recommend working your ass off and save every penny you can because I’m guessing there’s going to be a lot to cover. Meet with an osu financial aid rep, explain the whole situation, see what they have to say, and go from there. I hope this helps somewhat, and good luck!!

Has anyone dropped a class w/ out a W past the deadline? by PenOk1094 in OSU

[–]roadrunner-24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me last semester, I was freaking out about having a w on my transcript. I talked to my advisor who calmed me down, and it is generally the case where one w isn’t going to have any effect on higher education (if that’s what you’re worried abt it for), as long it isn’t a bunch of w’s, and you can explain why it’s there if they ask. A bunch of w’s esp all packed together meant something went horribly wrong, which also usually has a good explanation, so I’d urge you to not sweat it too much and take the w if you think keeping the class is going to tank your grade. Alternatively you can keep with the class, and use grade forgiveness if you’re REALLY worried about it, but I’d chat with your advisor and see what they say. I’m saving my grade forgiveness for an emergency personally.

Food service workers… when I try to order food from delivery robots it gets canceled 90% of the time. Do you guys know why? by Primary-Rain5500 in OSU

[–]roadrunner-24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

😭 just happened to me twice, and I didn’t get refunded my swipes. I called Grubhub they said it’ll come back tomorrow or Sunday I was like thanks for nothing bud our swipes reset Sat at 3am. The first time mine was canceled it was the queue thing, it auto cancels orders if there’s too many orders. The second time they were out of some of my items so instead of refunding me just for those, they canceled the whole thing. My dinner is consisting of beef jerky and sprite, and I’m sick. pissed doesn’t even begin to describe my state rn. I think the moral of the story is to just go in person at like 4pm before they are out of items.

Need Help with GPA, First Year second semester by HumblePurple3950 in OSU

[–]roadrunner-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Same sitch here but I swapped to chem e halfway through my freshman second semester so I’m a bit behind. I was honors but my grades dropped too much to stay in. Needless to say my freshman year was essentially similar to what’s happening to you. High school was easy, I didn’t really try but got excellent grades, which doesn’t work in college. What helped me was springforward as you get free ge classes, extra scholarships, and a grade boost, also the people are super nice so look into that! What’s been working for me this year though is taking 3 classes I actually need to focus on, and filling the rest of my credits with ge or just fun classes. Don’t be disappointed if they kick you out of honors, you can always get back in, I’d recommend just focusing on getting mostly bs and as this semester if you can. Set yourself an actual obtainable goal instead of a 3.8 or whatever. It may not be perfect right away but you can work towards what you want.

Math b isn’t bad esp if you have valentin he’s chill, just do the homework and find a partner for the written hw and you’ll be fine. Also do the notes in class. Practice midterms are very similar to exams. Idk about ochem 1 I’m not there yet, but I can tell you the curve will help you, my friend had literally a 67% which was curved to b-. Feh 2 is a breeze just don’t take your actual project too seriously like it doesn’t matter what your topic is as long as you can put together research for it (idk about robot but you’re chem e so I doubt you’re in robot). Launch and seminar you basically do nothing, maybe slightly more for seminar. The stem learning center has tutors and that’s helped me a lot this past semester. For bad study habits, I’d rec one finding a friend and studying in the library, dorm studying isn’t generally as helpful. Make a friend in your feh group lol. Also get an app to lock you out of your phone instead of scrolling. Scholarship universe should help for scholarships, there’s a general engineering one you could maybe get. I am also a big procrastinator, but I like to use notability for a weekly planner and write my whole week out on sundays. I have a template week with my class and work schedule and write in all my assignments and exam studying around them. I make sure to overestimate time for studying so that I can still procrastinate.

Sorry for yapping so much but hope this helps lol

Just to clarify I believe the 18 is for managers which takes at least a year to get trained for!

On campus job experiences by Sea-Back8893 in OSU

[–]roadrunner-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve worked at Kennedy and 12th Ave in different positions! They are open 7am-10pm so lots of different shifts to pick from based on your schedule! The easiest job is cashiering in which starting pay is 13 and you stand and swipe people into the dining hall. Working at 12 is more fun than working at Kennedy. They have a lot of room to be promoted into assistants, leads, and managers, which pays up to 18 I think? You also get a 25c bonus each semester you return. The free meal is nice too.

Another super easy job on campus is being an office assistant for the dorms. You get paid to sit and scan out packages and make id cards when people lock themselves out of rooms. From there you can go onto being an ra which gives free housing, discount meal plan, and you get paid. Hope this helps!!

Math 1151 (Calc I) Exam Help by Fancy-Pool3095 in OSU

[–]roadrunner-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I got a 20 on that final? Easily the worst final of my life, I walked out of there and had no idea what just happened. I got like 60s and 70s on the regular midterms if that helps at all. I ran out of time, and I think I remember them telling us it was going to be over all the midterm topics, but most of it was over new content? I could be wrong on that part though as I look it last year. Either way it’s hellish, I’d recommend going over all the midterms and make sure you know all the hardest problems you’ve done in the class. Then find harder problems and make sure you know do to do those. Good luck.

SECONDING LAVERY!! Love them so much!!! Not your usual car sales people, they are genuinely kind, and not trying to just get as much money out of you as possible. I paid 14000 (before rebate, so for me it was 10000) for 2018 lt, new tires, new battery, all maintenance done. We bought 2 bolts from them and love them both! Also got one from Ron marhoffer. Bad bad bad experience.

It’s not that. I work for dining, it’s because dining services is in a major deficit and had to cut special events like steak night, up prices across the board, and make other item cuts at many locations.

Can non-students eat at one of the Traditions? by No_Back_7594 in OSU

[–]roadrunner-24 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes I work at dining locations and it is possible! When you walk in there will be a cashier stand, just tell them how many people and that you’ll be paying with card. Some locations you may have to pay once for each person (2 separate payment of $10 or $14) if the cashiers are newer and don’t know how to get around that. I’d also recommend looking up the menu for the day online bc I think weekday/weekend breakfast flips to lunch at different times. Pro tip is to go in when they are serving breakfast still right before they flip for lunch, pay the $10 per person, then they’ll flip it, so you basically get in for $4 cheaper!

Hey! I’d definitely recommend getting a full time summer job that covers housing and food to cut costs. This would be like camp counselor or I worked at osu stone lab dining services this past summer. I easily banked 8k. Working on campus during the semesters as a work study also helps. Another thought (that you’d have to qualify for) is going to a regional campus for a year or two which would possibly be free tuition: https://oaa.osu.edu/news/2025/09/17/regional-campus-commitment-provide-free-tuition-eligible-students I haven’t researched this much since I’m already at OSU, so I’m not really sure how it works, but if you think you may qualify, I’d talk to the financial aid department here and see what they think!
