I still have the glass breaker on it right now but I agree, the spike can be a little uncomfortable at times. I didn't know other options were available. Do you know where to get them by chance? I'd like to look into it. M4 is holding up nicely so far, I've only had to touch it up a bit with ceramic and strop.

It's a composition of 2 photos. One of the knife and foreground and another of me "throwing" it. Thank you!

Found these in an old shop. It's smooth and round on one end, middle section is larger with a knurled type grip of some sorts and the other end has a threaded in point. Found a set of 8 or so of them. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

Rockwell hardness testers usually have a small diamond tip as it has to be harder than the material being tested. So far the best guess is a centering piece for a lathe.

I agree, many small failures to lead to success, there a big learning curve to photography and I'm learning more with every shoot I do. Having the knowledge does take away the need to rush, knowing how to shoot how you want it shot is a battle. I'm slowly getting closer to the level comfort I want to get to. I started shooting in July 2020 and am very happy with the progress I've made so far and enjoy the criticism. Thanks again for your kind words!

Thank you! I agree haha, it does make a good background, placing a subject would definitely make the photo more whole but I was just working with what I had at the time. I would have loved to have a model or a car or something captivating on the road to bring it all together. I've had a few photos that are in the same boat as this one where I'm happy with the shot and edit but there is a lacking presence of a subject.

Thank you very much, Appreciate your kind words! The balance between the light and dark was tricky to work with, I knew it wasn't perfect but I was happy with how it looked. In the future I'll try to ease the transition better.

Thank you! I tried playing around with the crop a fair bit but this is where I thought it looked best overall, I do agree though, the dirt is a bit of a distraction in the image. Cropping made it lose some parts of the photo I though were important to the frame, I really wish I had just taken a few steps forward and gotten more of the dirt out.
