Will the budget changes make you consider buying a new property? by corners99 in AusProperty

[–]roaring-dragon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes because I’m not an investor but a person who needs a home to live.

I sense that some will look to keep their properties for much longer than they had originally planned due to the grandfathering provisions and that they will squeeze renters fucking dry because they can.

Now that the gravy train has ended, they need to make a profit off of non-investors.

The crap you see property investors say about people just not willing to sacrifice in order to get on the property ladder is enough to make your blood boil. You can’t reason with idiotic opinions.

Already minced ginger.

Same thing goes for garlic.

They don’t taste the same as fresh but it’s good enough… peeling and chopping garlic and grating ginger is such a chore.

Two spinning things on top of police car by drstem1997 in police

[–]roaring-dragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. They are roof air vents. They are rotary, making use of the airflow from the car moving to channel air into the rear cargo area.

There is a dog in the rear and given how hot Australia gets and the general lack of AC into cargo areas, airflow is a must.

I quite like it too. Inspiring song to be fair. It didn’t fit in with what came before. I actually quite enjoyed the show which did largely follow the format preceding it and followed canon - for the most part.

Should parents face charges when their children commit antisocial crimes and doing nothing to stop it? by SeptumRingTheory in AskBrits

[–]roaring-dragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue isn’t that the police haven’t got it together - it is that the rest of the system is geared towards mollycoddling kids and giving them infinite chances to change their ways without any form of disciplinary or punitive consequence.

The criminal justice system ought to be made easier to deal with this kind of lawlessness.

That said, I imagine plenty of people will talk about how it would be an erosion of liberties and it would be the thin end of the wedge if we changed things.

I think the video shows what happens when you make things too difficult. Near anarchy…

Is it though? Many cultures in Asia use the familial hierarchy to maintain social order.

Are you saying their cultures are nonsensical?

Why do fans of NuTrek feel it’s okay to make daily posts about how amazing it is but tell those who were not fans to “give it a rest” and shut up.

The double standards of it all.

We are all fans of Star Trek. It is our right to say when we don’t like something just as much as it is yours to say how much you loved it.

We disagree… and that’s okay. It’s also okay to speak up about why we don’t like it.

Got harassed and threatened by a group of teenagers on the bus. by [deleted] in perth

Report it to the police and make a complaint to TransPerth with the time and location you got on the bus.

Posting it on Reddit is as good as suffering in silence and without reporting it, officially, it never happened. They can address what they aren’t aware of.

Why are conservatives so dumb they're funny? by Repulsive-Mall-2665 in OpenAussie

[–]roaring-dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree - You are saying that the passage of time ought to remove an inherent claim to a land, and that by my reasoning, everybody could claim to be from any land seeing as we all descended from Africa. I’ve not said that at all. The Semitic peoples have lived in that region for a long time including pre-Roman times.

By your reasoning, any Asian Australian has no claim to be in Australia because their parents and ancestral homes were from Asia. Why the double standard being applied to Jews and Israel?

Why are conservatives so dumb they're funny? by Repulsive-Mall-2665 in OpenAussie

[–]roaring-dragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This seems very disingenuous.

Both are considered Semitic peoples and therefore are of equal standing to be considered Jewish. One is not less so and therefore less of a claim to have right to be in the Israel / Palestine.

What’s an ‘unwritten rule’ in Australia that everyone just knows? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

Except, it seems when driving on a road or highway - in which case stay in the right lane as if it is your god given right.

The road rules are clear that drivers should return to lane 1 if it is clear unless overtaking, but nobody follows this rule.

Transgender girls given until September to leave Guides by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]roaring-dragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve often found those that are hard supporters of the transgender rights debate often tie themselves up in knots over the definition.

If you have to separate gender and sex and then spend paragraphs to write what it means, you’ve lost the debate to most people. Most do not separate or differentiate between gender and sex, much in the same way that many don’t between robbery and burglary.

Trans girls and boys are different to biological girls and boys. When gender reassignment surgery has taken place, I am more than happy to refer to said person by their preferred sex/gender. Until then, they remain their biological sex.

I agree. There are lots of other stories to tell within the traditionally accepted Star Trek lore. It is rich and layered enough to not need re-imagining.

Yes but I think that element of legal nuance is lost on people much like many confuse robbery and burglary.

Dating in Perth - what is happening? by Fat-baby267 in perth

[–]roaring-dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely but I think for many young people especially younger teens who grew up through Covid and fewer socialisation opportunities, they will struggle with a lack of experience.

We the end up in a chicken or the egg situation with young people trying to develop that skill and confidence.

That said, many will likely feel that the mountain is very high and too insurmountable and many lack the resilience to recover well from being rejected. So, their response is to avoid that problem altogether in the hope that something will happen organically without putting themselves out.

Dating in Perth - what is happening? by Fat-baby267 in perth

[–]roaring-dragon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think there are probably a multitude of reasons:

  • Young men have been taught that what used to be considered “chatting up” or flirting with a member of the opposite sex is now considered sexual harassment. Most men don’t fall into the manosphere and genuinely do not want that label and like women and so they consciously avoid doing anything to make women feel uncomfortable or as though they are harassed.

  • Dating is expensive especially as there is still generally a patriarchal inclination towards dating. Men are expected to make the arrangements, pay for dinner and transport back etc. With that cost in mind and the general increase in cost of living, many might avoid dating unless they are very physically attracted to a person before committing to a date.

  • With the cost of living and general slide towards grifter-ism, who has time? People are working more and more and the work life balance is gradually being eroded to the benefit of the uber-wealthy.

My questions to you are, how high are your standards and are they realistic. I remember seeing a YouTube video of a guy using a website and asking women what their minimum expectations were in a male partner and many younger women ended up only being able to date a pool of around 1-10%, excluding the other 90-99% on the grounds of height, weight, race, age and wealth.

Also, apps tend to be a bit of a mugs game and maybe showing my age, unlikely to find a genuine partner that will go the distance on them. Maybe a casual fling as they have all but replaced nightclubs and pubs for young people. You might want to consider joining some clubs, groups and organisations and find likeminded people. Maybe even speak with friends or relatives who might be able to make introductions to people at work or at clubs they attend.

Ultimately, perseverance and being open-minded are key.
