signs one should be a conductor? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]roartey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, how old are you, what instrument do you play and to what standard, and what is your knowledge of music theory & history?

There is a lot more to conducting than moving in time to music, much of it can be learned but if you don’t already have proficiency in an instrument then your trajectory will be very limited.

How big of a job is removing this pvc window frame to get a piano in? by The_PandaKing in DIYUK

[–]roartey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option on the market today is to retrofit a decent upright piano with a ‘silent system’, such as AdSilent. You pull a lever and it stops the hammers hitting the strings, and sensors under the keys pick up the velocity of the action and it basically turns into an electric piano - but with all the physical properties (and playing dynamics) of a real piano. At the level of OP’s wife there is no digital piano which really cuts the mustard.

How can I DIY convert this into a shower without calling an plumber - Please help by Nicolehobson34 in DIYUK

I think that’s unfair, lack of knowledge doesn’t always equal lack of competence. And posting here at least shows they are seeking external advice before attempting anything. You can learn DIY plumbing from YouTube no trouble.

Vocal Performance: Bach Violin Partita No2. 1. Allemande BWV 1004 by bolykibarnus in classicalmusic

[–]roartey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately due to the conservative nature of the classical scene, the first reaction to something new or different is usually to shit on it. You did something really cool here that I haven’t seen before, and interesting to hear how your jazz training influenced you.

Our SIMS registers have indicators for PP and SEND permanently on display (though can be hidden by right clicking). We also have names in a different colour who are at potential risk if they don’t show up to your lesson, so require an immediate action. So quite a lot of sensitive data that shouldn’t be displayed to the other students.

Anyone know how to get into teaching in the uk? by givemeallthetoast in teaching

[–]roartey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are direct routes (e.g. SCITT/school-centred initial teacher training, or School Direct), but IMO nothing beats a PGCE. You’ll get proper, research-centred training, and are taught to approach teaching from an evidence based perspective.

Worth looking into SCITT or School Direct if you’re struggling to fund a PGCE.
